Hello!

I hope you had a wonderful Easter last weekend, assuming you celebrate it. We hosted a small egg hunt for our grandkids. They’re only 4 and 5 (the other two live in Colorado, so they weren't here), and watching them run around the yard with excitement was a joy in itself. Every egg they found felt like some grand discovery, ha!

There’s something special about seeing the world through the eyes of children. Their excitement is contagious. They don’t need much, just a handful of colorful eggs scattered in the grass, and suddenly it becomes an adventure. It reminded me of when I was younger, when the simplest things brought so much happiness.

As we get older, though, that simple joy seems to fade. Life fills up with responsibilities, deadlines, bills, and everything else that demands our attention. We start focusing on the next task, the next goal, the next worry. And those little moments can easily slip past us if we’re not careful.

But watching my grandkids hunt for eggs reminded me that maybe that joy doesn’t really disappear. Maybe we just forget to look for it. It made me think about how important it is to slow down every now and then and appreciate those moments. Because in the end, it’s often the simplest things that become our favorite memories.

Speaking of simple joys, one of mine is getting lost in the stories I write. Right now, I’m deep into working on Crown of Feathers, book 3 of my griffon rider series (Talonbound). It’s always exciting reaching this stage of a series because the stakes are higher and the characters start facing some of their toughest challenges yet. I’ve really enjoyed spending more time with Iden and Tempest and seeing how they grow, especially as they’re pushed into situations they never expected.

There’s something special about this part of the writing process. It’s sort of like that egg hunt. Discovering unexpected moments, uncovering surprises, and watching the story unfold in ways I didn’t originally plan. Some of my favorite scenes come from those moments.

I’m excited about where this book is headed, and I can’t wait to share more details with you soon. With that said, I hope you've been enjoying Whisper of Wings. Book 2 came out on Tuesday, and thanks to Amazon's shenanigans, I lost all of preorders I had, which was the most of any of the books I've published. So if you preordered it and didn't see it on your Kindle, that's why. I'm still waiting for them to put my books back up, but in the meantime, you can get it on my website or any other ebook platform.

My in person events have been going well so far this year. I was at Lexington Comic Con at the end of March, and I sold more than the previous year. I also had several experiences with people buying some books and then returning the next day to tell me how much they were enjoying them. Lexington was the third show in a row where I sold out of my Thread Witch series. The premise of sewing magic really seems to interest people, which is great to see. I viewed it as a huge risk since it strayed from my usual dragon-themed brand, ha!

Regardless of the series that intrigues people, it’s always wonderful when someone picks up a book and says, “This looks right up my alley.” Moments like that never get old, and reminds me why I love telling stories in the first place.

Speaking of in person events, I'll be at the Huntsville Comic and Pop Culture Expo in Huntsville AL April 17-19. If you plan to be there, stop by and say hello. I'll be at booth I15 with 7 other amazing authors.

I think that's all for now. Until the next newsletter!

What I’m reading: I'm getting ready to start reading Dragons of Deceit by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

What I’m watching: I've been watching the newest season of The Witcher on Netflix. Without Henry Cavil, I was expecting the show to go downhill, but surprisingly, it's not that bad with Liam Hemsworth.

What are you reading/watching?

As always, a huge thank you for the support!

Richard
