Hello!

It may have only been 2 weeks since my last newsletter, but it feels like it's been months with how busy it's been here!

Between the Knoxville Book Festival and C2E2 in Chicago, working on my next Kickstarter, and working on a new book, I feel like the time is just slipping away faster than I realize.

First, let's recap my last 2 events as they were VERY different.

2 weekends ago (well, 3 weeks now), I was in Knoxville with 75+ other authors, including James Dashner and Charlaine Harris. It was fun meeting new-to-me authors and giving some tips to those who are newer to selling at in person shows. The sales, however, weren't really there for me. I profited a little from the event, but not enough to justify 3 days of my time. The event was well-run, but it just didn't seem to be my audience. As of right now, the jury is out on that one for next year.

Last weekend, I was in Chicago for C2E2. This was my first time at this event, and it went really well! It's officially my third best event for sales, following closely behind Gen Con. DragonCon still reigns supreme. I was in the author's alley, which was comprised of 32 authors, and my table was across from a local bookstore that had a booth and they brought in TJ Klune and Tomi Adeyemi, so that was cool. Dragonsteel was also there, although Brandon Sanderson wasn't. :( Despite that, I did manage to pick up a signed copy of Tress of the Emerald Sea.

The Dragonsteel staff came through the author's alley and interviewed each of the authors about what inspired their first book, so that was cool. Someone also came by my booth and said that people in a Brandon Sanderson book collector's group Discord channel were talking about my special edition. My imposter syndrome told me he was mistaking me for someone else, but I was able to track down this Discord and imagine my surprise when it was my book people were talking about! How cool is that?

Speaking of special editions, the proof copy of my newest one arrived while I was in Chicago. Here's a look at the cover:

The pictures are good, but they don't really do it justice. It looks epic! This edition will be launching on Kickstarter in May.

I'm home this weekend, and next weekend I'll be in Huntsville Alabama for the Huntsville Comic and Pop Culture Expo. If you're in the area or attending, swing by my booth and say hello. I'll be at booth I14.

Below you'll find 2 free ebook promos and the link to the Kickstarter prelaunch page for my next deluxe hardcover..

What I’m reading: I bought a signed copy of Tress of the Emerald Sea, so I may start working on that shortly!

What I’m watching: I've not had time to watch anything, so nothing new here.

What are you reading/watching?

As always, a huge thank you for the support!

Richard

Look at this design! Isn't is epic? It was designed by the amazing Liz Delton, who is also an author. She also designed the sprayed edge design. This campaign will be launching May 6!
