Hello!
We're just a week away from Dragon Con, and I've been prepping for the last 2 weeks now. If you don't know what it is, it's one the largest pop culture conventions in the USA. It's been around for many years, and I remember going back when I was in my younger years (20+ years ago). It was much smaller back then, but it's where I met several celebrities and some of my favorite authors. It's a good time, and although 100k people sounds like a lot, it's spread across multiple hotels, so it's not too overwhelming, at least for me.
Anyway, will I see any of you there? If you'll be attending, I'd love to meet you. I'll be doing a few panels, and outside that, you can find me at the Sidestreet Book Market (booth 3201) and the Fantasy Gather.
Here's my current panel schedule:
Friday at 7PM - Witchcraft Beyond Hogwarts
Saturday at 1PM - Let's Talk Tropes
Sunday at 11:30AM - Books that Changed the World
After Dragon, these are my next few shows in the coming weeks:
Sept 5-7 - Smoky Mountain Fan Fest in Kingsport, TN
Sep 13-14 - TBR (Tennessee Books and Reader's Convention) in Knoxville, TN
Sept 25-27 - FanX in Salt Lake City, UT
October 4-5 - Boardwalk City Comic Con in Myrtle Beach, SC
One of the things I've done while preparing for Dragon Con is I've gone through my inventory of books. While doing so, I've reorganized my special editions and pulled any copy that has imperfections aside. With that said, I have a question for you.
If you could purchase a special edition with imperfections, what price would you be willing to pay? For context, most of them sell for $50 normally. If they were marked down to $25, would you be interested? These are minor aesthetic imperfections and don't affect the readability of the book at all. The imperfections are things like small pieces of missing foil and slight bubbling on the spine. I'm debating putting them for sale on my website, so I'd like to get your feedback!
It's another short newsletter! Have a great weekend!
Below you'll find a new book release from an author friend!
What I’m reading: I've begun a re-read of the Dragonlance books, and I've started with The Soulforge by Margaret Weis. This is my all-time favorite book, and it's been a while since I read it last. I'm about halfway through it, and it's bringing back so much nostalgia!
What I’m watching: I recently watched the live action How to Train Your Dragon movie, and it was fantastic! I really enjoyed it.
What are you reading/watching?
As always, a huge thank you for the support!
Richard
