Hello!
Happy Friday! It's a long weekend for me, which means an extra day for writing related things. We normally go to my in-laws and grill out. What do you do for Memorial Day, if anything?
Speaking of writing related things, I've working on my new series. I used to be an all-out discovery writer, but I've slowly morphed into a mix between that and a plotter. And if you aren't familiar with those terms, a discovery writer is someone who doesn't plan anything. They discover the story as they write it. It's fun, but also makes the writing process take a little longer. A plotter is someone who generally plots out their entire story before they start writing it.
My current process is I write a short outline, usually a paragraph or two per chapter with basic scenes or things that need to happen, and when I write, I let my creativity fill in the gaps. It makes the process go much smoother, but I'm also not limiting myself to the outline.
Anyway, my new series will be set in a world where unhatched dragons choose their riders in the womb. Pregnant women lay their hands on an egg, and if their belly is flooded with warmth, they know their child has bonded to a dragon. When the child is born, they hear the voice of their dragon in their head but don't get to meet their dragon until they come of age and go to a special ceremony. When the main character arrives for the ceremony to meet her dragon, things don't go as planned...
I don't know exactly how many books this series will be yet, and I'm struggling with the title of this first one. I'm currently undecided between Chosen or Bound by Duty. Which one resonated with you more?
My Kickstarter campaign is going well and I even revealed the proof copy in a video. You can watch it here. The campaign will end at 11AM Eastern time on May 30th. If you're on the fence about getting a copy, watch that video and see how epic it looks!
Below you'll find a free book promotion!
What I’m reading: I'm getting ready to read The Last Shadow Knight by Michael Webb.
What I’m watching: I rewatched Ready Player One the other night. I've read the book, and while the movie is very different (it had to be), I really like it. I know a lot of people who didn't like it, but it such a fun watch.
What are you reading/watching?
As always, a huge thank you for the support!
Richard
