I think, if I was less of a nerd, this was what my last email should have been titled. But I wasn't going to pass up a Star Wars reference, and I didn't want to delay getting the prequel out to you so I could have an appropriately named email.
Priorities, right?
Release of Technopath
First off, here's the download link again for those who either didn't see it, or didn't get it last time.
This story was actually first written from Daniel's point of view, and was a prologue to the third book of my series, where he's the main character. It was interesting rewriting it from Tia's point of view, because her thoughts about some situations were completely different to Daniel's. Though almost all the dialogue and actions are the same, he was much more sarcastic about the situation than Tia was.
Like when they first met and she was asking questions:
I glared down at her. “Are you always this annoying?”
She shrugged. “My parents think so.”
Huh. Sympathy for the brat. Who knew?
Or when they were climbing the ladder.
I started climbing, and was half way up the three story building before I thought to look back and make sure she was following me.
She had barely made it three rungs, her torn arm barely gripping the railings. In the distance, I could see the demons.
Well this is it Daniel. Up here, you’re safe. Or you head down to help the kid and possibly have both of you dragged down to your deaths.
Did demons even eat annoying brats? I wondered as I descended the ladder. When I reached the rung before her, I jumped, hitting the ground hard. Surely she would just prattle on about hoverboards until they died of boredom.
When she looked at me, wide eyed with surprise that I was on the ground again, I could do nothing but give her my biggest grin as though this was the greatest prank I had played on her. Surprise, we’re both gonna stay on the ground and die. What a joke right?
“I’ll steady you,” I said. “Just focus on keeping your bad arm close and climbing the best you can.”
While I'm sad that we all missed out on Daniel's sarcasm, I think the story worked better from Tia's perspective, and it works MUCH better as a prequel to the series than as a prologue. Plus we'll all get Daniel's sarcasm in book three.
Pretty stuff:
Did you see my author logo at the top of the page? I decided it was about time and got one created for me. Though it's basic at the moment, my idea is each year I can add something else to it. I'm thinking for my first year it should be either a dragon or a phoenix. Something to think about over the next year. Any preferences?
Giveaways:
Two this email. Both have a heavy fantasy focus. There's some overlap, so take note of what you're downloading so you don't double up.
One of them has a story advertising "post apocalyptic princesses" and I have to admit, I find that idea way cooler than I should.
Until next time
-Ren, author who SHOULD FOCUS AND NOT WRITE A FAIRYTALE STORY IN THE UNDERCITY.
