Hello
The theme of my month has been "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." (G. K. Chesterton for anyone interested). What do I mean by this?
Well this month I built a website. It sucks. Seriously. But you know what, it exists. Actually, this month I achieved a lot of the boring business setup I needed to get done, including registering social media accounts, and starting to use them. You know, the things that you need set up to tell the world you exist. I'm doing them.... badly.
But sucking at something is the first step towards being kinda good at something. So I'll just keep doing it.
Ps. One thing I did not do badly was my "Author Bio". It's the one part of it all I'm actually fine with staying as it is. I'll be changing my amazon author bio to this soon because as it turns out, NO ONE FACT CHECKS THESE THINGS. Like buying a birthday cake from the shops. THEY DON'T CHECK IT AT ALL.
This pro tip is brought to you by someone who enjoys eating birthday cake when it is not my birthday.
Name change: "Dennovan" to "Technopath"
So the other thing I did this month was change the name of my second prequel novel from "Dennovan" to "Technopath". Why? Because I realized it was misleading calling the story after a hero that wasn't the main character. While it is Dennovan's "origin story" - much in the same way that "Flashfire Angel" was the origin story for those characters, the fact it's not from his point of view, or him on the cover was going to confuse people.
While I do enjoy confusing people I figured it was better to not do that this time. I'll be sending this prequel out with the next email. My intention is to make it free on most retailers so I'll share the link once it's up!
Social stuff
As mentioned above, I'm getting my socials in order. If you'd like to follow me on platforms (and for an idea of what I will post)
TikTok - Renblake - I'm going to start by doing the "page flip" quotes from my book. If you like sarcasm, consider taking a look. When I get some more work done with Daz3d (another fun thing I'm enjoying "doing badly") I'm hoping to get some character models and pointless other things there.
Facebook - Ren Blake- Author - I'll be mostly posting cover reveals and anything else interesting I can think of.
Website - www.renblake.com - It's not good, but it exists. Blog posts will mostly be the emails I send you as well as any cover reveals. I may upgrade to scenes from an upcoming novel or series if there's any interest.
Something about dragons:
Ok, this isn't a freebie, but it involves dragons, and I LOVE dragons. That I have yet to figure out a way to involve dragons in my current series should not be held against me. I will. Somehow.
ANYWAY, the following is an anthology of dragon stories. Yes, it costs money, but dragons are still awesome, and if you're like me, it's going to be worth checking out.
Freebies:
I love giveaways. Maybe it's because I love reading new authors and figuring out whether I should READ EVERYTHING THEY HAVE EVER WRITTEN EVER (Yes, I'm one of those people). The freebie gives me a way in without spending my precious money.
I have two for you this month. One is the "Young Adult and New Adult Academy and Urban Fantasy Giveaway". I'm going to admit now, I'm considering (by considering, I mean it's my procrastination project this month) writing an academy story based off my "Spirit War" series (if you've heard nothing about this, it's because I've not published it yet. Soon). Picking up some of the interesting stories here will be a good starting point. I'm probably going to spend my month working through some titles.
The second one is "A Touch of Magic". There's a whopping 78 books in this promo, so if you don't find something you like I'd be impressed (and frankly kind of honored you ever picked up my book.) Either way, worth a look if you're looking to expand your TBR.
Until next time!
-Ren Blake, Author, builder of bad websites and probably not a princess in disguise.
