County Moves To Remove Clerk As Unelected Position - Hearing Postponed… Again
Jul 08, 2025 10:31 pm
POSTPONED AGAIN!
PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION HEARING
In a last minute move, Judge Vanderwood has recused himself because he’s the presiding judge that interacts with the Council.
THIS IS EXACTLY THE REASON I FILED IN SKAMANIA COUNTY. WILL I (AND THE PUBLIC) GET JUTICE IN CLARK COUNTY WITH A LAWSUIT AGAINST CLARK COUNTY?
Justice delayed is justice denied.
This case is not just about one Councilor or one issue—it’s about transparency, public trust, and protecting your right to be informed and involved in decisions that shape the future of Clark County. I’ll keep you updated as the case progresses, and I hope to see many of you there in support of open and accountable government.
🚨ALERT🚨: COUNTY MANAGER & OTHERS WANT TO CHANGE THE CHARTER TO MAKE COUNTY CLERK APPOINTED RATHER THAN ELECTED
The Clark County Manager, and others from the judicial branch, are aiming to strip the people the right to elect their County Clerk. In short, some don’t like the way the Clerk runs things (who’s also a conservative) so their answer is change the Charter so that the County Manager makes the choice (then to be rubber stamped by the Council), rather than the people (the proposed selection process is not known so I’m speculating based on how others are appointed - so the process might be different in the end).
It’s clear, the people can’t be trusted with the important decisions so the elites need to take control… for our own good, of course.
If you can, show up or call in this Wednesday at 1PM and respectfully & peacefully give your input.

ICYMI: RIDGEFIELD SPLASH CASH PAD WOES CONTINUE
Ridgefield's Splash Pad, which started out as a $375k proposed construction project, ran off the rails by almost a million dollars. Even though the project was promised for the Summer of 2023, potentially costing taxpayers an extra $110k to expedite, it still didn't get done on time.
It's Summer of 2025 now, and still no Splash Pad... just three concrete circles that get used at Christmas time for tree displays (I first broke this story in December 2023).
The City updated the public saying that the contractor was going to get one more attempt to correct the problems, and if it doesn't resolve the issues and get the Splash Pad working, they'll have to start all over with a new build (contractor's insurance supposedly paying for the rebuild) which would most likely result in no Splash Pad in 2025.
To date, as far as I know, the City of Ridgefield has not taken ownership of the mismanagement or the execution of the Splash Pad build.
TIMELINE:
- 2021 - $95,000 - Splash Pad Design (proposed in '20 for '21 budget)
- 2022 - $375,000 - Proposed Construction Costs (proposed in '21 for '22 budget)
- 2022 - $822,102 - Approved contract for Splash Pad (Sept. '22)
- 2023 - $1,215,593 - Approved change order to complete project (October '23)
