Kimsey Attempts To Change Charter Rules To Prevent Future Initiatives - Republican Convention This Saturday

Kimsey Wants To Squash Future Initiatives (That They Don't Like) By Expanding PA’s Powers With Charter Amendment

While the Auditor is supposed to be counting votes from the last election he found the time to come down to the County Council last Wednesday to try and persuade them to CHANGE THE CHARTER TO GIVE THE PROSECUTING ATTORNEY'S OFFICE MORE POWER to stop initiatives they don't like. He referred to our current efforts and painted a picture, even filled with dramatic sighs, how he’s trying to save democracy (give me a break).

You all know what the PA's office did by trying to illegally stop the REC Initiative. After I submitted the REC on December 19, 2023, the PA's office jumped into action to prevent the proposed initiative from getting on the ballot. Even though the Home Rule Charter is clear about the process and stated limitations on initiative proposals, which the REC's subject has been deemed legal and within the local initiative powers, and the PA’s review process, they don't like how it played out and want to give the partisan Democrat PA's office more power in what should or shouldn’t be on the ballot. Imagine that, with only armed with a weak legal OPINION, the PA’s could deny an initiative from the beginning. One of the first things I was told at the Elections Dept. when I filed the REC is, "The PA's office won't let this happen." The administrative elites know that the PA's office protects THEM and NOT US and they want to grant the PA's office MORE POWER even though they were recently caught abusing their existing power.

Thankfully, the Council didn't approve the initiative amendment to move forward (2-3 vote against).

WATCH MY FULL COMMENTS ON KIMSEY'S ACTIONS

Fun Facts that came out of the meeting:

  • Kimsey confesses that he "wrote the Charter draft." Many people agree that the Home Rule Charter has been fraught with problems and it turns out we can thank Kimsey for all of it. Even though he's responsible for all the Charter problems now he wants the taxpayers to foot the bill to "fix" it. I propose any future “fix’s” come out of Kimsey’s pocket.
  • Kimsey said repeatedly that democracy is expensive and worth it. Oh really, Mr. Kimsey? Then why don't you conduct a thorough audit? Why do you ignore and brush off the concerns of citizens if democracy is so important and you are concerned about the disillusionment of voters? His hypocrisy is brash and in our faces.
