Abram was an older man. Earlier in Genesis 12 God had made him a grandiose promise to make his offspring as numerous as the sand of the sea and the stars in the sky. We find later in Genesis 15 that the promise is made again and Abram believes and it was credited to him as righteousness.
It is so tempting to believe what we see over what we do not see. It is said that our eyes rule our beliefs. We will trust our eyes over our other senses. Abram looks kindly at his barren wife. Abram looks at his aged reflection in the water pot. Abram looks at young people having children. Abram looks at old people not having children. YET he did not trust his eyes, but rather, he trusted the word of God to be fulfilled.
God has made you many promises. He said He will never leave you or forsake you. Do you believe Him? He said He would be with you to the end of the age. Do you believe Him? He said He would return for you. Do you Believe him?
Do not trust in your eyes, but trust in the Maker of your eyes. He also gives the faith so that you can believe. Take time to write down His promises to you and then trust Him to keep those promises.
The apostle Paul sums up the totality of God’s promise keeping ability in 2 Corinthians 1:20
“For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him. That is why it is through Him that we utter our Amen to God for His glory.“ Trust your God over trusting your eyes today.
