It is wrestling season. For the Christian wrestling is not a season but a continual reality. We wrestle against the world the flesh and the devil. This passage displays the extent of the realm we wrestle against when we live for Jesus. It is sobering to read these words from Paul. He was a man that had regularly experienced the pain of abuse and torture, but that is not what he saw in the eyes of his tormentors. He saw past them into the realm that controlled them and enslaved them. Paul worked at identifying the real enemy. The challenge is to embrace your human enemy while realizing they are under the control of a cosmic power that desires to only steal kill and destroy. The love of Christ compels us to love those people and pray for their deliverance. That is only possible when we have on the armor of God. We live a “Set Free” life because of the great love and mercy of God. Certainly we can go out and speak the words that bring release to the captives.
