Smell Test is ON?

Today is World Food Day.
Here are some easy habits to reduce food waste:
- Eat Ugly: funny looking produce still tastes the same! Don’t let it go to waste.
- FIFO: First in first out, keep your fridge rotation always moving.
- Smell Test? Don’t sue us, but it turns out stamps like “sell by” or “expires” aren’t regulated by the government. Instead of tossing food right away, give it a whiff. Maybe even have your roommate try it (you didn’t hear this from me.)
Show us the Food:
What’s with broke college kids and ramen? I guess it’s cheap, quick and honestly pretty tasty. Whether or not plain ramen is indeed a meal is a personal call, but let me introduce you to Ramen for Real Adults by Marielle Kinney.
Baking bread-like things has always scared me. You actually have to measure, yeast is intimidating and I never flour the surface sufficiently. But Cameron Chaney’s focaccia recipe forever changed me. The perfect crunch could be yours today, just be prepared to add “some oil and a whole lot of love.”
It is officially mid October which means it’s time for large corporations to push pumpkin spiced foods and halloween products on everyone. We thought we’d take a swing at it too!
Which brings us to this week’s Supreme(ly Spooky) Chef Of The Land! Maddie Rohner has been a driving force of Provecho since the very beginning. You can catch her popping off in our group with everything from pesto pizza, to gazpacho, to this pumpkin curry!
Do yourselves a flavor, and eat some good food this weekend!
Buen Provecho,
Conrad
