Red Christmas and a Productive January
Jan 29, 2026 1:12 am
Greetings! Welcome to my latest newsletter, we're so glad you could join us...
Heyo, hope you're doing well in this exceptionally chilly January winter. I've been loving the cold but could really do without the wind chills... and the giant snow piles in my driveway... but at least there are no wasps! I can't stand winged insects with stingers, especially bees, I've had a horrible fear of them since I was a child after getting stung just under my left eye.
I mention this because, like poetry, this Christmas, I received a lovely scratch under my right eye from one of my kittens! She was above my head in the window just over my bed and fell off it, and she loves to flail her limbs about... she just barely missed my eye, and thankfully there's no infection. Any farther up and it would've been a red Christmas, if you catch my cold.
I won't show you photos for those who may be sensitive to blood, because it was a pretty nasty wound. Just use your imagination.
~ 🦎NEW PET SHOWCASE🦎 ~
Meet Ash, our new crested gecko! We got it to keep Zen company, and is somehow even more calm than the gecko named after the art of keeping calm.
She (assuming) only sits on your hand, unlike Zen who loves crawling all over you. My wife and I find the two of them often within tail's reach of each other, so we know they at least tolerate each other! 💕
~ 🎨JANUARY ART🎨 ~
I've had quite the busy January! Times are rough for artists nowadays but I won't be letting that slow me down. Nay, we persist!
Pokémon Anniversary Art Collab Submissions
First are my latest submissions to the Pokemon 30th Anniversary Collab. I've officially completed 10 works so far, with Overqwil and Magnezone, my first non Fighting- nor Poison-type done, and have updated my group shot with the new additions.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Evo Sticker Designs
On the subject of Pokémon, I'd recently bought and finished a playthrough of Pokémon Legends: Z-A (more on that later in the newsletter) and I was so overjoyed with all the Mega Evolution designs in the game, I had to draw some of them. Here are four newcomers, Mega Froslass, Mega Hawlucha, Mega Scrafty, and Mega Clefable. Of them, Froslass and Hawlucha are probably my favorite new Evos overall, with Hawlucha at #1.
I plan to make these into stickers and start selling them at my online storefront and convention tables.
Lord of Shadows
My first finished illustration for 2026 is some Killer Instinct fanart, featuring the series' main villain, Gargos. KI is such a cool game and a fun one to watch competitively, and I wish to digest and draw more of the series' unique cast of characters soon (you can play as a fire-breathing cyborg raptor!!)
Lady of Midnight (NSFW)
I'm putting in the effort to making more original works too. This one was an idea I'd created for a zine I attempted to sign up for, but was sadly declined from. I thought the idea of a vampire countess turning into a bat-creature was interesting, so I went on to draw it anyway.
I had every intention to draw this lady clothed, but as I progressed further into the illustration, I found it was the wiser choice to leave her in her unnatural natural state. Clothes would've been too distracting, and I honestly was proud of how I drew her body.
Black Gale
The next character in my line of Blazblue character prints, here's Kagura Mutsuki and a less-than-amused Hibiki Kohaku. I sadly wasn't able to finish this in time for his birthday this month, but I did finish in time for Frosty Faustings this weekend.
Chibi Art
A new batch of chibi art for January, featuring Mai Shiranui (King of Fighters), Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z), Slayer (Guilty Gear Strive), and Pit (Kid Icarus).
~ ✒️WORKS-IN-PROGRESS (WIPs)!✒️ ~
Started a sketch for Juri from Street Fighter 6 in late 2025 and it's been sitting in my to-do folder since, finally remembered to start drawing this in mid January...
Ink sketch of Amaterasu, the main character of Capcom's Okami series, one of the biggest video game inspirations behind my story and one of the most artistically beautiful video games ever produced.
An idea for a snake-themed binder clip design I'd like to have made and put up at my store. The idea is that it'd appear to be biting into whatever it was holding; inspired by this clip my wife had gotten at our last convention.
~ 🎮PRIMO RECOMMENDS!📽️ ~
I'd recently picked up the newest Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A and managed to finish it a little while ago. It was pretty fun, I enjoyed playing through it and appreciate it for trying some new ideas. Definitely isn't worth a new game price tag of $70 or even $60, but thankfully we got it used for the original Switch, not the Switch 2, at an electronics store on a whim.
A first for my newsletter, here's a recipe recommendation! An extremely easy and fun recipe, this traditional Japanese dish, "Dashimaki Tamago", is light and yet no-less filling. It's a simple egg omelette produced using dashi, or "fish stock". That being said, I assure you your eggs will NOT taste nor smell like fish when cooking. You even cook it in a special square pan!
Because I'm still very inexperienced with cooking beyond following a recipe and making very minor tweaks, I make mine plain and top with parsley and kewpie mayo, then dip in soy sauce. As is typically with much of Japanese cooking, you can fill or top your dashimaki with whatever you want!
I must also give a massive shout-out to my wife's cousin for providing us with a rice cooker that has now become a staple utensil at our house. We've begun a new tradition of cooking rice balls every week using it. Get a rice cooker if you somehow don't already own one!!
~ 📋TABLE SCHEDULE📋 ~
I've no firm updates yet regarding my convention appearances for 2026. I've applied to several shows, anticipate applying to more when they open, and am waiting to hear back from those that I've applied to.
As of now I've been waitlisted from Combo Breaker, a big fighting game tournament in Chicago, but unless they can expand their art room with more tables and remove me from the list, I'm likely not attending. I have been accepted to Cleveland Gaming Classic, I just need to finish paying off the table.
Once I have more solid news, I'll be sure to include it in a future edition.
