How the Science of PM Can Improve the Delivery of AI Solutions

“Same thing, only different” is one of my favorite sayings.

It reflects a concept that while there are innovations that happen over the course of time, there still exist concepts that remain constant no matter the speed or depth of innovation.

Over the centuries since people first ideated the notion of a project, this saying also holds true for project delivery.

Today, the next wave of innovation involves the exciting use of practical artificial intelligence (AI) to further improve our lives.

Back in my days as an undergraduate college student, I took an elective computing theory class that sounded quite interesting. However, by the end of term it turned out to be the most difficult class of my degree program; (e.g., our professor had three PhDs and was working on modelling the human mind). While I barely survived the class, over the years I came to appreciate being taught AI at an early point in my career—and am now seeing it emerge as an exciting means of solving many complex problems.

Here I want to focus not on how AI might improve the art of project management, but how the science of project management can improve the delivery of AI solutions. Let’s look at a few of my perspectives on what the future may hold for project management essentials with AI delivery:
