your weekly pause 002: rest is necessary
Apr 26, 2026 10:46 pm
Hey ,
This week flew by so fast that I used yesterday to do absolutely nothing. Well, not completely nothing. I did make it to Bikram yoga for the first time in almost a year (which thoroughly whooped my butt, but felt so good), and I knocked out the three things on my to-do list. But other than that? I sat on my couch and rested.
Notice, I said "rested", not "rotted," which I've been seeing everywhere lately, and I have to be honest, I don't like it, cuz if you're rotting, you're dying. And I this body is full of life. But after a week of employee reviews, deadlines, intense workouts, and content creation, I needed to decompress. My husband also left for a week-long work trip this morning, so I'm overindexing on the rest now because once he's gone, I'm all hands on deck with the kids. That's what we have to do sometimes: plan the rest before we need it. Instead of waiting until we're on the edge of exhaustion and have no choice but to sit down, what if we scheduled the exhale before we got there?
The Pause:
Go through your calendar right now and block two hours on one day this week for nothing. Maybe you sleep. Maybe you watch TV. I genuinely don't care. Just put it on the calendar like the appointment it is.
My Recommendation:
A comfortable, breathable set of pajamas can make every single day feel more restful. I have multiple sets, and the moment I put them on, everyone in this house knows I'm in rest mode. These are the ones I keep reaching for: grab them here.

Remember, you don't "earn" rest.
You don't "deserve" rest.
You need rest to sustain yourself, to show up, to not resent your life, your kids, or your partner. Make it a priority before it becomes an emergency.
Take what you need, leave the rest.
With love,
Patrice
