Hi ,

A warm welcome to 2023 from the team at Panjango! We hope you had a lovely Christmas break and are recharged for the year ahead.

Our first batch of the new year sees some exciting new additions to the Resource Bank...

Beating the Blues

It's officially the most depressing day of the year - "Blue Monday" - on Monday 16th January!

So we've created a powerpoint resource and accompanying worksheet to help students understand why people might be feeling particularly 'blue' at this time of year - and to guide them through some simple things they can do to look after and improve the well-being of themselves and their friends.

If you are keen to further explore the complex issue of mental health and well-being with your students, then check out our contextual learning resource on this topic here for an alternative approach.

Cool Jobs!

We've added the first in our new series of Cool Jobs resources!

We know that some students can find it really tricky to pinpoint a specific career path for their future goal - and some might even find it difficult to decide on a sector that interests them.

With that in my mind, we're creating a range of resources that introduce students to cool jobs that they might not have thought about that relate to work settings rather than sectors.

First up, is one for those who are drawn to the idea of working outside in the fresh air! The Cool Jobs in the Outdoors resource explores 22 weird and wonderful jobs that primarily work in the outdoors.

The Cool Jobs resources will feature an interactive challenge selector to allow students to choose their own journey around a wide range of contextualised challenges - as well as a bonus series of story-based challenges at the end.

Watch this space for more in our Cool Jobs series - with our next being 'Cool Jobs involving Space' where students will get the opportunity to tackle challenges relating to everything from a Meteorologist to a Martian Botanist!

Coding Challenge

This fun Coding Challenge offers an exciting introduction to coding as students get to grips with binary code before taking on the role of a Cybersecurity Specialist that needs to save the internet!

Coding is essential knowledge for anyone interested in a career in computer technology or game design, and the problem solving element is perfect for building key skills and perseverance.

This activity is ideal as a starter that will get your class' brains warmed up after the winter break.

The Big Budget

We've also added enough lesson to our Explore, Experience, Thrive scheme of work focusing on something that is often top of people's wishlists when asked what topics they want schools to teach about more - budgeting and real world finance skills.

The Big Budget lesson helps students understand more about how household finances are managed - and some of the unexpected shocks that can put financial security at risk.

But it's not all serious. As part of the lesson, students play The Budget Game to see whose budgeting skills can make them come out on top!

You can find the Big Budget lesson (see lesson 11c), as well as our full package of 30+ scheme lessons, here.

Is Medicine for Me?

We were fortunate to be joined by four medical students on an internship before Christmas. We worked with these soon-to-be doctors to create an exciting range of health and social care themed games and resources (and a BIG new careers game concept we're still busy working on!).

But first up is a varied lesson helping students to decide if medicine is the right path for them.

The 'Is Medicine for Me?' resource provides a mix of useful information alongside contextual challenges to leave students more confident about and prepared for the requirements of a career in medicine.

And, crucially, it shows them the alternatives in the health sector if they think becoming a doctor is not the right path for them but they are still passionate about helping people lead healthy and happy lives.

More coming soon...

We'll be back soon with some more exciting additions to the Resource Bank (we're especially excited about the 'A Day as a Doctor' game we created with the medical students!).

Remember you can access more than 250 different lessons and resources with the Resource Bank here.

As always, let us know if you have any feedback or requests otherwise we hope you enjoy using everything we've created for your students :)
