Connect popular events with career learning in the classroom

Find out more our collection of Events resources...

Hi ,

The final term of this academic year is here and the countdown to the summer holidays is on!

The calendar for the next few months is jam-packed with festivals, sporting events and celebrations galore. We know you'll also be starting to think about your programme of careers activities for the next academic year too.

So we wanted to quickly spotlight our Events resources as a reminder of some of the themed activities already in the Resource Bank that connect careers with popular events in the calendar...

As you can see, we’ve got a lot of the major sporting events of the summer covered for the sports enthusiasts in your classes - and those who are (or aren't *yet*) interested in a career behind the scenes in the sports sector.

The Wimbledon Rally, World Cup Shoot Out and Tour de France resources all explore alternative careers in the sports world, highlighting opportunities that students may not have considered or even know exist.

July's Women's World Cup in particular provides a fantastic opportunity to engage girls in a conversation about careers in sports and leisure.

The Panjango World Tour is also a great activity for use in the run-up to the summer holidays as students get to 'travel the world' and experience some of the career paths that might allow them to enjoy work overseas. This resource is also great at connecting geography with the world of work.

The gamified and interactive nature of the activities also encourage teamwork, problem solving and communication and so build the skills essential for success in life after school.

You can find all 26 of these Events resources in the Resource Bank folder here.

(Note: by the time May comes back around we promise we'll have one or more Events resources to fill that month too!)

☀️ New: Summer Solstice Worksheet

We've also added a new Summer Solstice worksheet to the Events calendar this month to coincide with the solstice on Wednesday 21st June.

This quickfire worksheet offers five contextualised challenges that put students' knowledge and skills to the test in some work-related scenarios linked to the longest day of the year!

Students use their maths to produce daylight data as a Meteorologist, consider the challenges faced by a Tour Guide at Stonehenge, think about how Farmers might use the longest day of the year to earn extra money, and more.

Designed to last 10-15 minutes, the worksheet is perfect for using tutor time as a quick careers activity and to link curriculum knowledge to the world of work.

We hope you enjoy using all of our Events resources and that you find them an interesting way of connecting popular real-world events with career learning in the classroom.

As ever we would love to hear your feedback - if there’s an event you think is missing from our calendar, please get in touch and we’ll see what we can come up with!

Best regards,

Jon and the Panjango Team
