Hi ,
Welcome to our big final update of this academic year - the summer break is finally here!
We know you will have done a fantastic job of supporting your learners through the exam period and giving them the tools they need to make decisions about the next steps in their education journey. We hope our resources have helped with this too and that you’ll continue to use them in your careers planning.
Our update this month includes an exciting new Labour Market Information game, some new English careers comprehension activities, our usual additions to the core categories... and the launch of our new 'newspaper' with a careers twist!
🃏 NEW GAME: Play Your LMI Cards Right
Our new careers version of Play Your Cards Right is the perfect way to introduce your classes to Labour Market Information.
Accessing Labour Market is vital in making career choices and also important for social mobility. If your learners know the pay they could receive in different job roles, and how in-demand certain career paths may be, then it helps them to make more informed and more aspirational decisions.
Students can choose to explore one of three Labour Market Information categories including Salary, Hours Worked and Future Growth.
They can play in pairs, small groups or as a whole class in a 'last person stands' format to find out who has the best understanding of the labour market.
The game includes 15 different mini-games in total, LMI data on 32 different careers and offers a fun way of supporting you in delivering Gatsby Benchmark 2 (learning from career and labour market information).
Download our new Play Your LMI Cards Right game here.
Remember we also have a dedicated lesson on LMI in our careers Scheme of Work (see Lesson 8A).
We have some exciting plans to create more careers-themed games in the coming months so watch this space for more!
📰 NEW: The Panjango Post
We're delighted to launch the Panjango Post offering news with a careers twist!
This regularly updated 'newspaper' will feature a selection of real news stories - with students provided a quick summary of the breaking news before they are placed into the heart of the story as they complete one or more contextualised challenges relating to the job roles involved.
The first batch of stories featured include:
- Prince William's new project to end homelessness
- 180,000 passengers hit by flight cancellations
- Blackpool Zoo welcoming a baby orangutan
- The greenest-ever Glastonbury Festival
You can check out our inaugural edition of the Panjango Post here.
We'll continue to update the newspaper with fresh stories as they happen to continue to connect career learning with the real world.
Over time, the paper will be expanded to feature more stories on the front page - and we'll build up an archive of older stories for students to continue to explore.
We aim to highlight positive news stories to showcase some of the amazing achievements of people in the world of work away from the doom and gloom of usual newspaper headlines.
We'll keep you updated on the latest new stories added, but it will always be the same file being updated so each time you open it up you should find new content.
Let us know if you have any feedback on this new regular feature or if you have any specific story requests!
📚 NEW: Careers Comprehensions
Let's keep the flow of new resource types coming! Next up...
We are pleased to introduce our new Careers Comprehension series!
These are literacy-based activities that challenge students' critical thinking and comprehension skills as they review careers information presented in different formats.
Each Career Comprehension includes some key stats and information, a description of a 'day in the life' of that job role, and brief info on how to follow that career path.
Learners then need to answer a range of questions to check their understanding. The questions are built around the VIPERS reading prompts to link with the reading curriculum.
The first three careers to be added are Accountant, Actor and Doctor and you can find them all in the Key Stage 3 Subject resource folder here.
These student-led worksheets are great to use as a homework activity, but would also make a great addition to tutor time, English lessons or a careers-linked lesson in any subject.
📸 Individual Careers
We've continued to expand our core package of individual Careers resources by adding three new roles this month including:
Each of our Careers resources includes key job information, discussion prompts, seven contextual challenges and a ‘boss level’ which takes students through a series of three story-driven challenges.
Print the slide deck as a homework activity, explore as a group during tutor time, or get students to explore a job role of their choice individually during a careers lesson - these are flexible resources that can be used in a variety of different ways.
These are one of our most popular downloads as they offer a great insight into some of the 'real' challenges faced in that career path - whilst also connecting core learning to tasks faced in that job role and helping students develop important skills for life after school.
You can find our full collection of 60+ individual Careers resources here.
Remember there is also a Career Exploration worksheet for students to complete to reflect on the job role they chose to explore.
We even have four Future Jobs resources for your students to explore here too!
🧮 KS2 Maths
Last but not least, we’ve added some more topics to the KS2 folder.
All of these resources are mapped to the KS2 Maths curriculum and are perfect for reinforcing knowledge in your lower school students in order to build confidence.
Our three topics this month are Time, Money and Shape and you can find them here.
Each resource includes seven challenges that demonstrate the real life applications of each topic - making these resources ideal for sharing with the Maths teachers in your school to help them bring the Maths curriculum to life and connect careers and the curriculum (Gatsby Benchmark 4).
🗣️ Feedback
As this academic year comes to a close, we’d love to hear any feedback you have about the Panjango Resource Bank.
What have you found most useful? Which activities have your students engaged with best? What types of resources would you like to see added in the future?
Your feedback really helps us to shape the Resource Bank and ensure it offers as much value as possible, so please let us know if you have any thoughts.
Otherwise, we're already busy working on new updates for the new academic term - with a particular focus on creating more careers games - so watch out for our updates in the run-up to September.
Enjoy your well-earned holiday 😎
