Hi ,
We’re back with some more exciting new additions to the Resource Bank.
We’ve got a brand new Events resource to add to your calendar in the form of our International Women’s Day challenge and quiz sheet, a life skills activity, a drawing challenge, a new LMI game and more!
Read on to find out more about our new introductions to the additions to the Panjango Resource Bank...
💜 International Women’s Day
International Women's Day is celebrated annually on March 8 puts the spotlight on important issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights and violence against women.
We’ve created a worksheet and quiz that helps students understand how the work of many different careers can have a big impact on the lives of women.
Students work to complete five International Women’s Day themed careers challenges and then take part in a quiz to showcase some of the big accomplishments women have made in the world of work!
You can download the resource here.
🎮 The Health and Social Care LMI Game
Our new Health and Social Care version of Play Your Cards Right is the perfect way to introduce your classes to Labour Market Information associated with the Health and Social Care sector, as well as introducing some job roles that students may not have considered.
Students can choose to explore one of three Labour Market Information categories including Salary, Hours Worked and Training Duration. Students can play in pairs, small groups or as a whole class in a 'last person stands' format to find out who has the best understanding of the labour market.
The game includes six different mini-games in total, LMI data on 12 different careers and offers a fun way of supporting you in delivering Gatsby Benchmark 2 (learning from career and labour market information).
You can download the Health & Social Care LMI Game here.
You can also find our general, all-sector version of the Play Your LMI Cards Right game here (note: we're planning to update this game to the improved game format in the near future).
🎨 Create a Careers Scene
Following on from Children’s Mental Health and Wellbeing week last month, we’ve added an activity that we think would be great for promoting some mindfulness activities whilst also linking to careers.
The ‘Create a Careers Scene’ activity includes templates featuring three of our Panjango characters. Students are tasked with bringing to life a careers scene around the character based on their understanding of the tasks, tools and clothing associated career options.
Great as a starter or settling activity, you could provide students with a career to focus on or let them choose their own and allow the class to guess the career!
You can download the activity here.
🏘️ Life Skills: Mortgages Activity
With the housing market and mortgages a permanent feature in the news, we’ve produced a numeracy-based resource that puts students into the shoes of a Mortgage Advisor to look at the maths involved in assessing the affordability of buying a house.
Many of your students may aspire to own their own home, and this activity challenges them to calculate percentages to identify the deposit and monthly earnings that they might need to get on the property ladder.
Students will also use their problem solving skills to compare mortgage costs. A useful maths activity that also helps students to think about potential earnings and make aspirational decisions if they do want to own their own home one day.
You can download the mortgages activity here.
📚 Reading Comprehensions
We’ve added a further three more careers to our Reading Comprehensions series which challenge students' critical thinking and comprehension skills as they review careers information presented in different formats.
This month sees Plumber, Events Manager and Fashion Designer join the folder.
Each Career Comprehension includes some key stats and information, a description of a 'day in the life' of that job role, and brief info on how to follow that career path.
Learners then need to answer a range of questions to check their understanding.
You can find the full set of these Reading Comprehensions in the Key Stage 3 Subjects folder here along with careers resources relating to every topic of the KS2 Maths, English and Science curriculum.
📰 The Panjango Post
The Panjango Post is also back with its monthly update. This month we've covered news stories including the announced ban of disposable vapes, and the announcement of a pioneering green community heating project in Bolton that will be powered by poo!
Each story features a short synopsis followed by a contextualised challenge to see how students would respond when placed at the heart of that story.
