Hi ,
We hope you're settling back well into the new academic year which offers another chance to inspire the next generation of students to go out and make a real impact in the world!
As always, we’re here to give you the tools to develop your student's skills, broaden their horizons and, crucially, excite them about the exciting possibilities in the world of work.
We’ve got a mega batch of new and updated resources for you to use with your students this month - including introducing your new Year 7’s to the world of work in fun ways.
Here are this month's additions to the Panjango Resource Bank…
🔮 New: Jobs of the Future: Memory Surgeon
First up, we’ve added a new career to our Future Jobs series to help students understand the ever-evolving and rapidly changing careers landscape that they will become part of when they finish their education.
Our new Memory Surgeon resource features 8 contextualised challenges that encourage learners to think about the ethics and science that might be involved in the future of brain science - a future where erasing, enhancing or storing memories might be commonplace.
Students will apply curriculum knowledge and use key skills to get them to the Boss Level where they’ll need to consider the ethics and benefit of digital memory downloading (something that is already happening for real!).
This resource is great to use as a whole class to stimulate discussion and debate about the future world of work - simply display on your whiteboard and you’re ready to go!
You can find four other Future Jobs resources including Extinction Revivalist, Fusion Scientist, Mars Colony Manager and Vertical Farmer in the folder here.
🦥 Cool Jobs with Animals
Our ‘Cool Jobs’ series has proved incredibly popular with subscribers as we aim to put the spotlight on some of the more unusual careers on offer in a range of different settings.
Our latest addition is sure to appeal to the animal lovers out there who might ordinarily consider that their career options are limited to veterinary work.
Our Cool Jobs with Animals resource looks at 20 animal-focused careers from Forensic Entomologist to Racehorse trainer that will encourage students to think about careers that best fit with their interests!
They’ll also be challenged to take part in the Stranded! challenge to see how other careers may also be drawn into the animal world!
You can download the resource here.
🚀 Cools Jobs involving Space
Continuing the Cools Jobs series, and to coincide with World Space Week (4th-10th Oct), we have also massively expanded our Cool Jobs involving Space resource.
The resource already featured 18 existing jobs that work in and around the space industry - everything from Robotics Engineer to Space Flight Technician.
We've now added 15 future jobs involving space to show students the exciting new roles that will exist as we reach for the stars!
There are comfortably two lessons worth of content in this resource which could be used either for whole careers lessons during World Space Week - or by getting students to complete challenges relating to jobs of their choosing during tutor time.
You'll find our full set of Cool Jobs resources, as well as 14 sector-focused resources in the Sectors folder here.
🚒 Emergency Service Reading Comprehensions
As it was Emergency Services Day this month, we’ve added three important careers to our new collection of Reading Comprehensions focused on the emergency services.
These student-led worksheets aim to develop critical thinking and comprehension skills in your learners and to celebrate and promote the work carried out by our emergency service workers.
They are ideal to set as homework or to be used as a settling activity at the start of a lesson - especially an English lesson to help connect careers and the curriculum.
You’ll find reading comprehensions for Paramedic, Firefighter and Police Officer, as well as three other careers, in the KS3 Subjects folder here.
🔎 Activity: Skills Wordsearch
We've also added another fun careers activity in the form of a Skills wordsearch which aims to help students understand the skills they need to develop to thrive in life after school - and then reflect on their own ability in each of those skills.
You can find the Skills Search and a wide range of other fun careers activities in the Activities and Worksheets folder here.
🖤 Updated: Black History Month
We have also updated our Black History Month resource ready to highlight this vitally important topic during the month of October.
The original resource included thought-provoking challenges to encourage conversations about black culture, black historical figures, equal rights and the Black Lives Matter movement.
In our updated version, we’ve included information and challenges that focus on unconscious bias in society and the workplace.
These help students understand their own biases and how they can help to create real change in the world by finding ways to overcome these biases.
These challenges have been added at the end of the resource as a new Boss Level which we hope will be an engaging resource to use in PSHE lessons or in tutor time during Black History Month.
Find this resource and a range Issues based resources in the folder here.
📰 The Panjango Post
Last but not least, our Panjango Post 'newspaper' is back delivering the news with a careers twist!
The Panjango Post delivers some of the latest news into your classroom alongside career challenges that will put your students at the heart of the stories allowing them to apply their skills and critical thinking to the big events that are making the front pages around the world.
The latest stories featured include the devasting earthquake in Morocco, the recapture of an escaped prisoner and the school closures due to unsafe concrete.
There are now a host of recent news stories to explore through our news-bites and corresponding careers challenge.

📰 In the Spotlight
Finally, we wanted to spotlight a few resources that are particularly relevant at this time of year, including:
Make a Difference Day falls on Sat 28th October and we have our Make a Difference Challenge that is perfect to get students thinking about the small ways they can make the world a slightly better place!
Halloween falls on Tues 31st October and we have a careers-themed Halloween resource exploring all the works that goes on to make the spooky festival a success.
We also have a batch of Transition resources that you could use with your new intake of Year 7s to introduce them to the world of work in a fun way.
