Instagram LogoSix Crimson Cranes was a great book and I can't wait to read more by #elizabethlim ✅ Read if you like fairy tale retellings steeped in Asian folklore. I wasn't familiar with The Wild Swans, but the whole book just had a magical feel that brought the fairy tale to life.  ✅ Read if you like magic, dragons, curses, talking paper cranes, and more!  Six Crimson Cranes didn't hold anything back in the mystical department and I loved it.  ✅ Read if you like princesses who go on epic quests and save the day! She put herself through hell to break her family's curse. I loved how weaving became kind of badass, bringing part of her princess life into her quest.  ✅ Read if you like really well written books. The first page had me hooked, which doesn't happen often. Also, check out that gorgeous map!  ❌ Don't read if you like the happy Disney version of fairy tales instead of the darker originals. The main character couldn't speak for most of the book so she couldn't really defend herself when people treated her horribly. Which happened all the time.  ❌ Don't read if you're looking for an intense romance. This has a slow burn romance as a subplot, but it's not resolved by the end.  ❌ Don't read if you want a complete story in one book. The main conflict was resolved, so there wasn't really a huge cliffhanger, but it's definitely set up for a second book. I was a bit unsatisfied with the ending so I'll have to reread it when the next one comes out. I bet they flow well as one story! ❌ Don't read if you prefer logic and not a girl wearing a bowl on her head for most of the story….  I know it's a fairy tale and this was her curse…..but really?  A bowl?  It kind of snapped me out of the story whenever it was brought up because of how weird it was to picture.  #sixcrimsoncranes #fantasybooks #fairytale #fairytaleretelling #yafantasy #bookstagram #amreading
Instagram LogoCarcassonne is a tile laying game that can be as relaxing or cutthroat as you want. It's a classic and probably my most played game over the years. 🎲 Players draw a tile and place it, creating a medieval themed map. Points are scored by creating and claiming cities, roads, monestaries, or farms. ✅ Play if you love simple games that can also have deep strategies. There's more to the game than just placing a tile. Deciding where you place it is where the strategy aspect comes in. ✅ Play if you love tile laying games that let you make a really impressive map with crazy shaped cities. I've made a few silly roundabout roads too lol ✅ Play if you like a short setup time. Since you're building the board as you play, you pretty much just hand out the player meeples and start playing. ✅ Play if you love lots of possible expansions and different themes. This game has a bit of everything. I always play with the Traders and Builders expansion and the Inns and Cathedrals expansion. I often use The Phantom and The River as well. ❌ Don't play if you dislike luck in your games. Since you draw a random tile each turn, you might never draw what you're looking for. It's rare for a tile to be bad, it just might not be what you want. ❌ Don't play if long end game scoring drives you crazy. At the end, you score all unfinished features as well as some very confusing, but powerful, farmers. Those farmers can swing the game in somebody else's favor easily and are often overlooked. ❌ Don't play if somebody sneaking into your city that you've spent the whole game building and taking your points will really upset you. Some players never do this, but other players do it all the time. You can usually see it coming though and can sometimes prevent it. If you've played Carcassonne before, what did you think of it? What's your favorite tile laying game? #boardgames #tilelayinggames #carcassonne #boardgamenight
