Beware of “Storm Chaser” Roofers

Hi ,

After a big storm, it’s not unusual to see roofing contractors driving through neighborhoods, knocking on doors, and offering to inspect or even replace your roof. They’ll often frame the conversation around your insurance coverage—suggesting the work will be “paid for by your insurance company” or implying that filing a claim is automatic and risk-free.

Here’s the problem: not all of these contractors are legitimate. Some exaggerate damage, push unnecessary claims, or do substandard work and disappear once they’re paid. Filing an insurance claim when there’s little or no actual damage can even create issues with your coverage down the road.

That doesn’t mean all roofers are bad—many reputable, local companies do excellent work and don’t use these aggressive tactics. If you think your roof may have storm damage, it’s best to:

  • Call us first so we can help you determine whether a claim makes sense.
  • Work with established, local roofing companies with strong references.
  • Never sign paperwork on the spot without fully understanding it.

Your roof is too important to leave in the hands of “storm chasers.” A little caution up front can save you big headaches later.
