I wanted to share one of the most simple yet powerful pieces of advice I give to every single client:

Create a home inventory.

I know, it sounds like a huge, boring project. But forget the spreadsheets and checklists. Just take out your smartphone, hit record, and walk through your house for 15 minutes. Open closets, open drawers, and narrate what you're seeing ("This is our new TV, here's my jewelry box, these are the power tools in the garage...").

Then, save that video to a cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox.

If you ever have to make a major claim due to a fire or theft, that 15-minute video will be the single most valuable document you own. It's indisputable proof of your belongings and will save you dozens of hours and immense stress.
