Balancing Work and Family on the Go

Are you thriving amidst the challenges and triumphs of your professional journey?

As I write, I find myself in the vibrant city of Chicago this week, knee-deep in client meetings and warmly welcoming a new addition to our team. Later this morning, my journey takes me to the chilly landscapes of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to revel in the joys of family and, admittedly, shiver a bit in the cold.

How do you stay connected and ensure seamless business operations (sorry, my Operations hat is on) while you are on the go? I wanted to share three strategies that have proven invaluable during my travels:

  1. Transparent Communication: When on the move, it's crucial to inform your clients about your absence and provide clear communication channels. Let them know how they can reach you in case of any urgent matters. Open and honest communication builds trust and understanding.
  2. Scheduled Check-Ins: Despite the time zone differences and hectic schedules, carving out dedicated moments to check in with your clients is essential. I schedule these check-ins early and later in the day, ensuring that our connection remains strong, even if it means setting that alarm a bit earlier. This commitment reinforces that I am fully present and engaged regardless of my physical location.
  3. Maximizing Airport Time: Airports can be bustling productivity hubs. Utilize your waiting time to catch up on emails, review documents, or engage in strategic thinking. Ensure your devices are ready to go, and remember to use a secure VPN, especially when relying on public Wi-Fi. Transforming airport downtime into productive moments can significantly impact your work efficiency.

As we navigate the complexities of business ownership, let's continue to find innovative ways to stay connected, whether across states or time zones. These small, intentional efforts foster strong client relationships and keep our businesses thriving.

Safe travels and warm regards from your chaos whisperer,

Lisa Olinda, Olinda Services
