Stop the Time Thief!
Mar 16, 2023 3:21 pm
Meet Miska. Miska was rescued from a puppy mill when she was a little over 5 months old. She was terrified of everything when we got her. She didn't trust us enough to even come in the house for about 3 days.
Miska is now 11 months old and part of our pack. She is a total sweetheart BUT she has one fault -- she is a thief!
If she finds it, it is hers. Tim put down a tube of silicone sealant outside, turned around and it was gone. Sure enough, Miska was happily destroying the tube. I just purchased a lovely pair of leather outside working gloves, which Miska found and destroyed. Do NOT leave meat on the counter, just saying.
Why tell you about my beautiful dog's fault?
There may be some beautiful, satisfying things in your day that are stealing your time!
Do you ever feel like there aren't enough hours in the day? You have goals you want to accomplish, but it seems like there are so many things stealing your time. It's important to identify these time-wasters so you can eliminate them and make room for what's truly important.
Here are a few common things that may be stealing your time:
- Social media - It's easy to get sucked into scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Before you know it, an hour (or more!) has gone by. Consider setting a time limit for yourself or taking breaks from social media altogether.
- Procrastination - Sometimes we put off tasks because they seem overwhelming or we're not sure where to start. However, procrastination only leads to more stress and wasted time. Break tasks down into smaller, manageable steps and set a deadline for completion.
- Multitasking - Contrary to popular belief, multitasking is not an efficient use of time. It's better to focus on one task at a time and give it your full attention.
- Distractions - Whether it's interruptions from coworkers, notifications on your phone, or background noise, distractions can steal your time and make it difficult to concentrate. Consider finding a quiet workspace or using noise-canceling headphones.
- Coffee - (my guilty pleasure) - just one more cup!
What about the urgent things that steal your time? I haven't written my newsletter in three weeks. Why?
My excuses involve doing my bookkeeping which I was behind on (tax season is here in the US.) Another one was urgent client work which included audits, compliance issues, etc.
We can't always control all of these urgent time-stealers, BUT we can give ourselves grace when they occur. We can also identify our time-wasters and take steps to eliminate them.
Whether it's working on your goals, spending time with loved ones, or simply taking a break and practicing self-care, you deserve to use your time in a way that's fulfilling and meaningful.
Take care of yourself. Embrace the shifts. Move forward with grit and grace!
