5 Books That Helped Me Through Quarantine

Hi friend,

If you're wondering why you got this email, it's because at one point you expressed an interest in hearing more from me about all things writing and/or book related.

If you're no longer interested, you can unsubscribe below. No hard feelings.

However, if you're in for the ride, I want to share with you 5 BOOKS that helped me keep my sanity while in quarantine.

To be honest, I can't imagine how anyone could say "I'm weak" and then stay that way. If you know that about yourself, why not fight it, why not develop your character? Their answer has always been: "Because it's much easier not to!"

I actually finished reading this right before quarantine started in Austin, Texas (where I live).

But it gave me two helpful tools:

  1. Purpose ails existentialism.
  2. Documenting my experience gives me purpose.

What was groundbreaking to me about the book is that all Anne did was write about her day-to-day as honestly as any thirteen year old child can.

And that anyone can do the same thing.

Every day or every couple of days (depending on how busy you are) just write down what you have experienced in that time, how it made you feel, and what you did/what you learned from it.

I persevered because I recognized that writing was my sole chance of creating something, of climbing from the dark pit, fulfilling the dream, and resting in the sun.

If you're a fan of Charles Bukowski or prison movies/TV shows, you'll love this memoir.

And what better time to read about someone's confinement than during your own? (Ha-ha!)

Successful careers are not planned. They develop when people are prepared for opportunities because they know their strengths, their method of work, and their values.

Perhaps one of the shortest and most valuable books you will ever read for career purposes.

Do you hate taking care of logistics? Do you learn from watching others or actually doing things yourself?

Peter Drucker will break down all notions you have about learning and working while also helping you orient yourself to a better way of doing both.

Grandiosity is the defense against depression and depression is the defense against the deep pain over the loss of self.

No book has helped me understand my childhood trauma more than this one.

Even if you think you don't have any, this book will show you that you do.

Read at your own risk. I know we're not all eager to dive into decades of painful memories.

People are not actually obeying out of support for the leader’s character or his thoughts and beliefs, but simply because they have the goal of being praised or not being rebuked.

Admit it.

We've all thought that our feelings of inadequacy and unhappiness belong to others at some point in our life.

This book will teach you how to be happy TODAY and what's been getting in the way of that all these years that you thought it was your job, your relationships, or your lack of material possessions.

The format is SUPER fun, too.

It's structured in conversation-form between a wise philosopher and his pupil.

That's it for now!

Thanks for reading. I hope you stick around!
