Hello from Belgium,

The holidays are over, back to the real world.

The first reviews are in, and I have 4.3 on Amazon from 6 ratings, and 4.63 on Goodreads from 16 ratings. For a debut novel three weeks out, I'm really happy with that!

Amazon Reviews of Past Mistakes

Past Mistakes has been out for three weeks now and that's plenty of time to get initial impressions from the general public.

I have six global ratings on Amazon, with an average score of 4.3 out of 5. That's really good!

A few lines of text from the Amazon reviewers:

Emily Voss is the kind of FMC that I like—jaded, snarky, but still human, yet has great power that she’s still figuring out. I loved the backstory about her coven, and also, how when preforming exorcisms, she pulls elements and deities from different religions. That was something I’d never read in an urban fantasy before.

Emily Voss was absolutely a highlight for me! I loved that she was walking into every situation not knowing exactly what she was doing. She’s figuring things out as she goes, making questionable choices, not incompetent, and somehow still managing to throw herself directly into danger. Honestly? Relatable.

This book sucked me in from the first scene (I sometimes have trouble visualizing action, and I could see it as clearly as if it was an episode of TV), and then kept adding interesting plot threads that kept me turning pages.

Five reviews and six ratings isn't very much, so if you've read it and would like to leave a review, fantastic! You can click the button below to go to the review page on Amazon.

Other review websites

Goodreads has 16 ratings with 4.63 average score. That I am also very happy with, and reflects the ratings I was getting for the original book when it was only three chapters long. It's nice to know I've maintained it now that we're at the full 104k words.

The reviews are all very nice with most of the compliments going to the characterisation of Emily. She's turning out to be one of the main reasons readers are enjoying the story.

It's also shown up on Storygraph with one five-star rating, and BookBub with one five-star rating. A cople of people have also reviewed it on Instagram and Threads.

So: if you haven't read it yet and needed some validation from others who have taken the time to go through all 400+ pages and review it, now you have the public opinion, what are you waiting for? Click below and read it yourself!

Support Independent Authors

It's a cold, hard slog to get a book into the world, and a big and ungrateful hill to climb to get anyone to notice once you've done it. So give a little love to the authors here below, if what they're putting out into the world is in your wheelhouse!

Both of these books are available on Amazon.

Wreck of the Dauntless by Nicholas Hurzeler

"Lord of the Flies" meets "The Expanse" in this gritty space survival thriller that straddles the fine line between civilization and savagery.

Two thousand light-years from Earth, the ultimate survival game has begun.

The Dauntless was supposed to be a beacon of hope-a state-of-the-art colony ship carrying four hundred souls to a lush new world. But beneath the starched uniforms and corporate protocols of the Westmoreland Corporation, a rot is spreading.

The Control Room (Part 1) by Miriam Khan

Aria Travinni has spent her life tending to others as a nurse, keeping her world small and predictable. But when strange symptoms begin to affect her life—like a pulse of power she can’t explain—she knows something unnatural is at play. The night she boards a train, her carefully ordered life detonates. The truth doesn’t just find her. It drags her somewhere she never could have imagined.

Caine Savino has lived for one purpose: revenge. Methodical and sharpened by grief, he boards the train ready to face the family who ended his. But the moment he crosses paths with the daughter of his enemy, his mission begins to unravel. She's one variable he never planned for, a weakness he finds himself unable to ignore.

Thanks again for your continued support, and I'll look forward to writing again in September!

Cheers,

Nick.
