Good reviews coming in, and a request for a sequel... already?

Hello from France,

As I explained last time, I am now on holiday near Omaha Beach in Normandy. Today, children build sandcastles on the sands of the beaches of the Normandy landings. We'll visit the American Cemetery in the next few days; it's a truly poignant and beautiful place.

I am now a published author

Past Mistakes is published.

Words don't quite bend into the shapes necessary to describe the length and effort of the journey to get from the blank page to the point when something gets published. It's like finishing a few marathons back-to-back.

Which makes the publication a little bit of an anticlimax

Initial reviews and what happens next

Reviews are the one thing that makes a real difference for a new book: reviews. Amazon starts showing a book to strangers once it clears a certain threshold, so early reviews are extremely valuable.

If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read Past Mistakes free right now - and a quick honest review afterwards would mean a great deal. No Kindle Unlimited? You can grab it for $2.99, or just reply to this email and I'll send you a free copy if you're willing to review it after.

There are a lot of you on this list. If even a handful read and review, that's a real difference.

The book is available here:

A side-story from the Emily Voss universe

If you're reading the book, perhaps you'd enjoy a side-story from the same universe. This is the story of how Emily met Raymond when she first started doing exorcisms in New York City. Click below to read it.

Read "Two to Tango"

Thanks for all your support.

Nick.

Clock City by Rebekah Dodson

Since Mom died and left me with my abusive, drunkard of a father I don't have much of a life. My only sanctuary's hidden in the woods. At least until I find a jeweled dagger and it transports me to somewhere called Elestra. I seriously can't believe this isn't some crazy dream, with mechanical horses, cat people, demons, and even metal dragons. I just want to go home, but everything is a disaster in Clock City. Who's this mysterious girl who appeared in Elestra? Alayna wears strange clothes and keeps complaining about something called a "cell phone." She even has a demon with her who's sworn a life debt, and now I'm bonded to her to help save the kingdom.

Static Slums by R.M. Demeester

Xanthe Static doesn't fail. She chooses to fall.
At eighteen, every citizen is tested. Pass, and you earn a life of cutting-edge technology, elite education, and near-zero crime. Fail, and you're discarded to the slums.
Xanthe has never believed intelligence determines a person's worth. After her parents vanish trying to expose the system, she deliberately falsifies her IQ score and disappears into the forgotten undercity.
But the slums aren't what she expected. As she befriends Phoebe Null and takes in Lola, a damaged android whose devotion blurs the line between machine and human, the mission that once defined her begins to unravel.
Some choices can't be undone. This was one of them.
