Happy spooky season to all you lovely folks out there! Hope you are all getting your costumes ready, eating pumpkin pie, or simply enjoying the cozy fall weather in whichever way you prefer the most.

This weekend, Crystal and Joe will be heading up to the beautiful Methow Valley in WA to be a part of the first Winthrop Folk and Roots Festival - put on by our dear friend and former banjo player Brian Alley! The duo will be playing Saturday Oct 25th at Mac Lloyd Park Pavillion in Winthrop, WA.

We're also excited to announce that we'll be playing with the illustrious Jim Lauderdale on Nov. 14th in Portland at the Showdown Saloon. If you don't know Jim - you should! He was recently inducted into the Nashville Songwriter's Hall of Fame and is a true character and personality. He also happens to be our friend, which is pretty cool.

He informally invited Joe, Crystal, and Lillian to play with him the last time he was in Portland and we're very pleased for the full band to officially share a bill with him.

In our last newsletter we had just finished up three days in the studio. Crystal would like to share a bit of our experience, what it was like, and how it was different from other times we have recorded:

“I’m really excited about this batch of songs we just recorded. This was the first time our band has ever recorded all in the same room together. The idea was sort of Traveling Wilbury’s style; Everyone in a big circle, lots of mics, a few takes of each song, just really trying to get the feel of being in the room with us.

I think we captured it because it feels pretty damn good un-mixed right now.

The challenge of recording like that is the pressure of each take feels high because you know you only have so many takes before the returns decline. You don't have lots of room for error or the ability to go back and re-punch a solo, like you would if you were isolated in different rooms.

The advantages of that setup, though, are so so great. Feeling your bandmates so close to you physically/vibrationally during the process is really special, and frankly, it’s exactly like hanging out with them on stage. We’re feeding off each other‘s energy, getting to look at each others faces and capturing the magic of the group together in real time... I definitely think we got the latter.”

After our show with Jim we'll be heading south to play on Dec. 12th at the legendary Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA. It's our first time headlining a show there and we couldn't be more chuffed - local SF buddies My Dog Jack will be getting things started. It's going to be a really fun night in a great room so put on your Birkenstocks and come hang!

One final announcement! Central Oregon folks - Sisters, Bend, Redmond - we've got our annual holiday solstice show happening at the Belfry in Sisters on Dec. 20th with our good friends Skillethead. This will be our 4th year doing it and it's always a huge party so mark your calendars!

11/14 Portland, OR - The Showdown Saloon w/ Jim Lauderdale

12/12 Berkeley, CA - The Freight & Salvage w/My Dog Jack
