we're not fed up with the pacific ocean

One by one a flock of fiddles slowly trickle in from the wings of the Grand Ballroom at Wintergrass playing "I'm Not Fed Up With the Pacific Ocean", a Swedish fiddle tune by the band Swåp. Joe Craven gives his final benediction for the weekend as the fiddles quietly pulse underneath him.
What an incredible time we had this past weekend at Wintergrass. It's one of our musical homes and we've been making the pilgrimage there every year for close to 10 years. The festival and its promoters have nurtured our band - they've given us opportunities and helped us mature into the band we are now. We're so grateful for that. It truly is one of the best weekends of the year and this time was no different. It always feels like a big family reunion when you're there and on Thursday and Friday it feels like you can't walk ten feet down the hallway without running into someone you know.
Big thanks to our friends Linda and Tom of Cascade Bluegrass and to Dan and Melanie of Peghead Nation for hosting us and giving us a place to showcase our music there this past weekend.
We're really proud to announce that in collaboration with Peghead Nation, Joe, Crystal, and Kaden have released a standalone vocal harmony workshop video! If you've ever attended one of our harmony workshops at festivals, it's very much like that! You'll get 45 minutes of instruction plus a bundle of downloadable Sing-Along mp3's for vocal exercises and for the bluegrass standard "Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arms". You can find the workshop here on Peghead's website.

We've also been hinting at it for awhile but we will be a hosting an all day music camp at our friend Mitch Cline's house in SE Portland on March, 29th. There will be a beginner track and an intermediate/advanced track and lunch will be provided as well. Attendance is first come first serve so register today if you're interested in coming. Link below. We're really excited to hang out with ya'll.

It's been a little bit of a sleepy winter performance-wise (which is actually really nice) but we're coming out of hibernation and ready to hit the road this spring. I feel like I say "hit the road" a lot during these newsletters. I don't know if that's trite or what. "Hitting the road" is a technical term we use in this business. It's very complicated. As a little aside, at Wintergrass this past weekend, Bruce Molsky, performed an amazing song by Andy Irvine called "Never Tire of the Road" which elicited a prompt response from Joe of "yeah bud!" followed by a playful "pfffffft" from Lillian. Joe loves being on the road and it was a cute vignette from the weekend. Here are some things you might want to mark on your calendars:
This coming weekend, March 6th, 7th, and 8th, Crystal will take part in an all female supergroup show called - She's Speaking - featuring some of the best female Northwest singers and songwriters. They're gearing up for their three day run taking place in Salem, Portland, and Eugene. Follow the link here if you're interested in checking out any of those shows.
Speaking of festivals, we're excited to return to a new(ish) festival next month in our nearby town of Newberg, OR! The Newgrass festival is in it's 2nd year, run by some good friends of ours, and we're very excited to return again on Saturday, March 14th! We'll be teaching workshops in the morning from 10am-2pm and then performing in the evening at 7pm. You can purchase tickets and check out the lineup here.
