Welcome to the 10th issue of The MSA Times. This is the last week before Thanksgiving Break so let’s finish this week strong! We hope to help you destress at our Calligraphy Painting Event on Wednesday in HTB 216. Moreover, we are hosting our first ever Chai Night for the sisters also on Wednesday in HTB 227 at 5:30 PM. This will be a great bonding event as sisters from other campuses and universities/colleges will be in attendance, so please come and bring your friends!

Dusting Off the Bed Before Sleep:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, “When any one of you goes to bed, let him clear his bed by hitting it with his garment, for he does not know what may have come onto it. Then let him lie down on his right side.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
This is done to protect you from anything harmful that might have come upon your bed while you were away from it. During the Prophet’s ﷺ time, there would often be scorpions and spiders!

In Australia, a Muslim student in high school was forced to watch a cartoon of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Muslim student was left traumatized when the teacher played explicit and profane cartoons to the class that portrayed Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The cartoon is believed to be a Charlie Hebdo front page from 2015. (Charlie Hebdo is a French weekly magazine company.) The Muslim student’s father demands an apology after the Muslim conveyed discomfort in class while the image was being shown yet the teacher not caring and continued to show the images. According to the ICV (Islamic Council of Victoria), the Department of Education said that the material being shown in the class wasn’t part of the standard curriculum.
