Let's brew our espresso for an insightful shot!

HEART (心) Concepts to Reflect This Chinese New Year

Ever since the pandemic, and the rise of A.I., things have just only gotten faster. Maybe it’s time we slow things down a notch and connect deeper and in a more meaningful way, instead of faster.

WHY Connect with Heart this CNY

The essence of Chinese New Year (CNY) is "tuan yuan" (团圆)—reunion. It’s a time when family, near and far, set aside their busy lives to gather, share a meal, and celebrate.

In today’s fast-paced world, these moments are rare. Sitting around the same table, dining, chatting, and laughing together isn’t just tradition—it’s a reminder of the bonds that hold a family together.

The greatest blessing (Heng), prosperity (Ong), and abundance (Huat) isn’t in material wealth but in the presence of loved ones. Appreciating each person at the table and the effort they made to be there—that is the true spirit of CNY.

WHAT Does it Mean to Connect with HEART

To me, it means gratitude—appreciating each person and embracing our differences. In every family, we bring our own ways of doing things—different traditions, habits, and preferences, especially as we grow and start our own families.

It also means “tuan yuan” (团圆)—not just as a tradition, but as an act of togetherness. It’s about being fully present, welcoming each other as we are, and cherishing the time we have together.

HOW Can You Nurture Your HEART Connection this 2025

These three concepts can help you deepen your HEART relationships this year—the same ideas I shared in one of my community talks last month.

(The original Chinese words are the roots of this concept.)

🌱 耐心 (Nàixīn) - Perseverance – How can I continue to practice patience, even when differences create tension? True perseverance is not just enduring but choosing to stay open-hearted, even when faced with challenges.

🔥 决心 (Juéxīn) - Commitment – Have I truly made the choice to prioritize connection this year? Real commitment means going beyond good intentions—it’s about showing up, listening, and making space for each other, no matter how different we may be.

🌸 养心 (Yǎngxīn) - Nurturing the Heart and Mind – Every time we embrace differences, we are putting "tuan yuan" (团圆) into action. Reunion isn’t just about gathering under one roof; it’s about creating an atmosphere where everyone feels seen, valued, and at home.

By approaching relationships with HEART, we begin to see the true meaning of "tuan yuan"—not just as a tradition, but as something we cultivate with every choice we make.
