Influencer vs expert marketing

Hey ,

I have to tell you… I once bought a course promising I’d learn how to use Instagram to get clients. The coach was showing Stripe notifications like trophies, flexed a few followers, and sprinkled in a ton of fluff (to stay polite).

I thought… maybe this could help me build my business faster.

So I joined, did the work, followed everything to a T... Except “answering comments,” simply because I wasn’t getting any.

At the time, I was still a personal development coach, knew nothing about messaging, and was following random advice that wasn’t working.

A while after, it hit me: being an entrepreneur isn’t about showing off notifications, sharing your breakfast, or using your account like a therapist’s couch.

In real life, would you hire a mechanic just because you saw their weekend activities?

Or trust a vet, lawyer, a business coach or accountant more because you saw pictures of their kids at a McDonald’s birthday party?

Personally, I don’t give a flying fox about any of that.

It doesn’t build trust or make me want to work with someone. I’d rather see reviews, thought leadership, and actual results.

Yet many people force themselves to share these things because “that’s what you’re told to do.”

Now, I’m not shaming anyone. If you love it, go ahead! Business should be fun!

But if you hate it, know there’s another way.

The absolute best marketing strategy doesn’t exist, there’s only what’s best for YOU.

For my clients and myself, as well as many who filled in my market research survey a few weeks ago, it looks like this: a website that turns visitors into clients, content that attracts the right people and that actually brings in money, without being glued to social media 24/7.

I made a whole episode about this: influencer vs entrepreneur business model. In this episode, I'm also showing the difference in messaging.

It’s time we stop forcing ourselves to do what drains us.
