The About page mistake that's costing you clients

Hey,

Quick question: when was the last time you updated your About page?

If you're like most business owners, you wrote it once when you launched your site... and haven't touched it since.

Here's the problem: your About page is probably doing the exact opposite of what you want it to do.

Instead of building trust, it's creating distance.

I reviewed quite a few About pages last month (yes, I do this for fun), and 95% of them made the same fatal mistake:

They were trying to PROVE instead of CONNECT.

Here's what I mean:

The "impressive" version: "With over 15 years of experience and multiple certifications, I provide comprehensive solutions leveraging cutting-edge methodologies to optimize your business outcomes."

The "connecting" version:

"Remember when you started your business because you were excited about helping people? Now you're drowning in admin tasks and wondering where that passion went. I help entrepreneurs get back to doing what they love while their business actually makes money."

Feel the difference?

The first one sounds smart but creates zero emotional connection.

The second one makes your ideal client think "OMG, that's exactly how I feel."

Here's the truth: Your prospects don't choose the most qualified person. They choose the person who understands them best.

Your About page should make visitors think:

  • "Finally, someone who gets it"
  • "This person has been where I am"
  • "I need to talk to them"

Not:

  • "Wow, they're impressive"
  • "They must be expensive"
  • "Not sure what's in it for me"

The fix is simpler than you think.

I created a free guide that shows you exactly how to rewrite your About page so it builds connection instead of walls. It also includes a checklist to help you recap before and after the revamp.

Take 20 minutes this week to review your About page.

Ask yourself: "If I were my ideal client, would this make me want to pick up the phone?"

If the answer is no, you know what to do.

Hint: you can also apply this to you social media bio or (re)introduction posts
