A NOTE  FROM AMY

🚼📊 TLDR: The next few months are full of opportunities for you to upskill, rethink the ways in which you're working and connect with other parents interested in entrepreneurship, flexible and remote work with kids worldwide.

It's felt like autumn whoooshed in quickly over here at our house, as I've been adjusting to back-to-school/pre-school for each of our three kids, caught up on appointments, signed too many forms, suited up for hockey skating training, pursued collaborations with other corporate partners, chatted to parents 1:1 and continued delivering virtual flexible and remote work with kids sessions.

Over summer, I caught up with friends and their little ones visiting from Toronto and Vancouver, my sisters visiting with nephews and niece, managed to show up as a family of five at two reunions, and appeared solo at two 40th birthday celebrations with friends I've known over 20 years.

It was chaotic (as always) trying to slow down, while mixing babies and business over the summer season. Chipping away at things over time between catching up on the growth spurt school clothes, shoes, hockey gear, life admin and medical visits.

We weren't always all present for soccer practices, swim lessons, park play dates or summer camp concerts. But it's the nature of raising kids without a traditional village, trying to cover off things with a patchwork of summer camps, sleepovers at the grandparents, time off work and drop in activities.

I'm glad I kept at it, however snail-pace-like it seemed, as September has flown in and out faster than I anticipated.

Now the school drop offs/pick ups bookend our days and we're going between +25ºC outdoor temperatures to an ice cold arena...waving at you from Ottawa, Canada 🇨🇦.

We've met teachers, toured classrooms and are potty training the youngest – I literally was sending toilet updates to childcare staff after confirming event promotion copy, toggling between email accounts back to back – such is life!

And I'm feeling a bit nostalgic as we recently visited the family farm to pick apples and measure kids against the corn field heights before the combines roll in. The oldest kid is getting a bit big for some play structures and we're moving quickly towards the parents as taxi drivers phase...I can see it coming.

🎊Celebratory moment between it all:I have big goals of continuing to serve more parents worldwide with accessible and inclusive future of work resources – for people who want to pursue flexibility around their family in under 30 hours per week – through the podcast, online trainings, digital tools and other corporate collaborations.

I've been accepted into three programs and plan to integrate their best practices, network of experts, visibility opportunities and resources into this next evolution of the Mixing Babies And Business™ virtual village you and your family are part of.

Over the next three months, I'll be releasing the remaining four guest interviews on Season 6 of the Mixing Babies And Business™ Podcast, participating in the AI Skills Lab Canada presented by The Forum, Camp Tech and Growclass, sharing my experiences with The Community Collective based in Australia on a Writing Scholarship for Cohort 7 with 113 other global participants and joining the Impact Hub network again as one of 10 members in Ottawa receiving a Compassionate Coworking part-time membership in 2025.

It feels like a full circle moment as seven years ago, I participated alongside our second baby from two to four months old in the Impact Academy: CityMaker program at the same location. I brought him downtown to weekly workshops and guest speaker sessions, feeding and changing him on site while also advocating for a baby change table to be installed for members who were also parents, like me.

Throwback to my Babies, Business + Breakfast meetup promotions with our second son in 2018:

Since then, I've validated, designed, produced and spoken about parent-friendly professional development and was informed the space now has baby change facilities for parents who wish to work from their location.

Adding to the two at Invest Ottawa Bayview Yards, that's three change tables installed since 2019 for babies, toddlers (and their caregivers) entering business and startup spaces in Canada's capital city! 🚼📊

I began attending professional development opportunities as a new parent in England and Ireland in 2016, advocating for more inclusive spaces and programming based on my awkward, embarrassing and at times, messy, experiences when we relocated.

Which resulted in producing my own versions of parent-friendly business events for others and our family out of frustration, speaking on stages, panels and interviews with our kids, launching a podcast and now collaborating with organizations who also believe the future of work includes making space for parents and their families.

See what's possible for you and others, when you show up, speak up AND create space!? You can also create lasting change. 🎊
