Things I've 'Failed' At In Public Lately

🕯️ A parent-friendly business note from Amy to keep your flexible work candle lit...

🎙️🎥Welcome to a super special and up-to-date edition of 'Things I've 'Failed' At In Public Lately...

🔥 Remembering how to speak about myself on the spot in a group meeting...I became breathless and stilted it honestly felt like I was treading water (thanks brain injury), but when the other people were answering I focused on my breathing and recovered in time for the other questions (ugh I literally help people with elevator pitches and have spoken in front of audiences for years...but your nervous system humbles you right up)

🔥 Getting more people to RSVP + show up at my online workshops (I'm very grateful for all who did join me because nothing like the market giving you real time feedback to keep things fresh)

🔥 Missing fancy events + business opportunities because my body needed to rest (it appears as though the less stable my health is the more glamourous invitations I receive, not sure if it's related to Murphy's Law but I'm going with it...feels flaky when I need to decline or cancel in the moment but you know what feels worse? Being sick for days at a time and unable to do anything, including look after my kids)

🔥 Saying the wrong word for something in front of the kids often (thanks again to my brain injury but lucky for me, they always correct me)

🔥 Over teaching to the point of people not feeling like they needed to explore more or take an external action (apparently I'm too nurturing and open with my information and ideas for readers, listeners, clients and event attendees alike)

I used to think caring too much, being generous, helping others before putting my own needs first, always telling the truth and trying new things with reckless abandon were weaknesses.

Now I know they're part of who I am and while I can create boundaries, time management and systems around them, I shouldn't be trying to rewire them all completely.

Instead, I observe them with curiosity, try to learn from it as data and integrate it for future moves. The maverick side of me is thinking about doubling down on them as core strengths.

  • When I feel like I'm 'performing', my voice and inner guidance aren't shining through
  • When I don't get the attendee results I hoped for, it doesn't diminish the value I provided to the ones who did show up
  • When I let others down in order to look after myself, it's done with integrity and self-compassion
  • When I shrink with embarrassment instead of taking things in stride or laughing it off, I know it's my ego trying to keep me safe
  • When I overgive and don't guide people into a next step they actually take, it doesn't mean I haven't already served them with the experience I provided

So long as I keep going, showing up and experimenting, failing forward is momentum and I'm continuing to embrace it all.

💡 How about you? Anything you've been adjusting your expectations around?

A mid-quarter 4 recap of life + work

We're nearing the end of 2025, I turn 40 next week and over nine years into #mixingbabiesandbusiness, this is what it looks like lately...

  • Weekend secret meetings, where I dress up and leave the house for mysterious reasons
  • Blustery + snowy school pickups
  • Midweek U11 + U9 hockey practices, weekend games and tournaments
  • Invitations to business events
  • Taking supplements to get those iron and bloodwork levels back to baseline
  • Potty training done, no more naps since the beginning of the year for our littlest kid
  • Pottery pickup at my local community studio for a weekend craft market
  • Having to decline invitations, adjust plans + rest, when the body says NO
  • School report cards, parent teacher interviews, book fair, upcoming concerts

I've learned and practiced in real time:

  • There will always be more to do, you don't need to do it all
  • A good no is better than a bad yes
  • The kids don't care about most of what I do, except to ask why I'm dressed up or what my pottery looks like
  • The early work, IP, resources and connections I made are what I'm experiencing momentum from now
  • No one notices things as much as you think they do (peers, teachers, neighbours, parents, strangers)
  • I can create quite a bit from my mobile phone

Most of the time I'm doing things in 10, 15, 30 minute stretches...anything more and I pay the price.

What workflows and routines I began due to kids' needs, short attention spans and my skills, has become habit which I intentionally need to buffer with pacing, breaks and way less screen time than I ever have done in my career.

💡Anything you've learned about yourself or the ways in which you do life + work lately?

Final event for the Mixing Babies And Business Community: November 21st, 2025

At the end of last year, I launched an accessibly priced community offering ($25 CAD) focused on sharing the intuitive rituals, practical tools and embodiment practices I've been using over the years as a freelancer, public speaker, parent and person doing advocacy and social impact work.

This virtual experience is designed to help you:

  • Build self-trust, while also setting boundaries
  • Better learn your body and growth edges
  • Make bold(er) moves and show up differently

All tested and refined by me, an accidental-turned-intentional activist, creative professional and parent of three kids under the age of 10, in order to continue regulating my nervous system, move past my comfort zone and do big, scary, audacious things...oftentimes with magical results!

Our final virtual call is happening this Friday, November 21st at 12 PM (ET): Sign up for your community membership to receive the Zoom room details

🚼📊🌏Can't join us live but still want access to the experience?

You can listen to and download all private podcast episodes and go through monthly rituals to date.

This offering will be folded into the Mixing Babies And Business™ online portal of tools and resources as part of my continued social impact work in 2026, so you have a little over one (1) month to get it while it's still available in this format and price point.

Hope to see you online again soon! Here's to starting with what you have, failing forward and figuring it out as you go (even AND especially if it's messy),

P.P.P.S. If you're a corporate leader and key decision maker who would like to learn more about this programming and other training opportunities for your team or clients in 2026, please book a call here.
