What Showing Up Can Look Like

A PERSONAL NOTE FROM ME (AMY):
🧐 I'm writing this one to let you in on some 'industry secrets' I've uncovered over the past nine years of showing up with our kids in business settings.
I'm not one for the social media trends but I'm feeling sentimental as our oldest kid is in his last year of single digits before the big bday #10.
Besides, we have so much b-roll from our adventures and behind-the-scenes footage together, why not!
Welcome to the propaganda I'm not falling for, new mum Amy edition, from a talk we gave with his baby bro (both of them were 22 months and 10 months old) circa 2019:
- You may not be invited or top of mind, throw yourself into life and show up as you wish
- Going with the flow, doing as much work horizontal as possible and in close proximity to naps and snacks is where it's at
- Time is a construct and can feel like it's going reeeeeeeally painfully slow when you've been cluster feeding on repeat and don't remember what day of the week it is
- Your brain still works, you have ideas and desire human connection, having kids shouldn't automatically exclude you from investing in your personal or professional growth
- You'll be fine without those limiting beliefs, after living in windswept Ireland and riding the London tube, arriving messy and imperfect is quite alright, so long as you get to where you're going
Special thanks to the CreativeMornings Ottawa chapter and Ottawa Art Gallery teams for hosting us and capturing these moments in time six years ago. If you're local or ever visiting Ottawa, it's a dreamy space for parents and their kiddos to explore: Automatic doors! Children's workshops! Baby change facilities! An elevator!
I'm working on something special for parents: A flexible work program for those curious about and eager to get started with hybrid/remote/contract work around young kids, based on my lived experiences, strategies and workflows as both a freelancer AND an employee, showing up as a primary caregiver in business settings.
It's a pilot program and will be limited in spaces, if you'd like to join you can reply to this email or sign up here to be the first notified when it's ready to go!
If you desire more flexibility in your work but are uncertain about what that may look like for you, this program is designed to guide you with real-life strategies, workflows and approaches to doing flexible and remote work (with kids), to support you with being prepared, ready to implement and make progress.
This is the only way to work with me in a group setting alongside other parents who are in the same life phase in 2025, aside from the community offering.
I'll be focusing on corporate partnerships, business trainings and creating digital resources, the podcast and webinars (alongside family things of course), for the remainder of the year.
Mixing Babies And Business™ is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 5 Gender Equality and 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth.
These social impact experiences and supporting resources are designed to create a wider ripple effect, while remaining accessible, simple and relevant to both the current times we're living through and the future of work.
I'd love to share more if you feel this upskilling opportunity aligns with your personal values as a parent and professional goals. Reply to let me know if you're interested and stay tuned for future webinar session details over the coming week!
Until next time, keep showing up – messy, imperfect, real – as and when you can,
