We took a few weeks away from the PNW to venture to the other corner of the country for a few warm winter weeks... Florida!🌞 We've spent the past week exploring (or, re-exploring for the 4th time!) the Wizarding World of Harry Potter @ Universal Orlando, driving (yet again) 6 hours from Orlando to the charming town of Sandestin in the Florida panhandle, and taking some time to relax, sleep in, and resist every Capricorn tendency Midori and my personalities are so dominated by. To say the very least, we've loved it.
🌅 Routines, rituals, and other random thoughts...
- While our geographic location may be ever-changing, one thing that brings us sanity is having some rituals we can reliably use to jumpstart and wind down our days. Check out Midori's latest writeup on this very topic to get a glimpse into what a few of those rituals look like!
💤 Speaking of good habits, how about getting good sleep?!
- Consistent, restful sleep is the most underrated productivity + biohack. Period. And yet, it's a fleeting achievement for so many of us (🙋🏾♂️). So here's the latest in my sleep experimentation that has yielded some good results so far:
- (1) Drinking a full glass of tart cherry juice an hour or two before bed. This tip comes from one of my favorite podcasts, Huberman Lab, on his episode with Dr. Matthew Walker. Shoutout to @bennovak.spire for introducing me to the podcast + product! My deep sleep (as measured by my smartwatch) is typically 20-30% longer with tart cherry juice.
- (2) New app alert! SleepTown: This one is gimmicky but works. I struggle with a consistent bedtime (guilty of revenge bedtime) and this app gamifies the whole process. By getting to bed on-time, you start the construction of a new building in your town. Use your phone after bedtime... building destroyed 💔. Simple, but powerful! 📖 A new book you should definitely check out
- As mentioned earlier, this past week in Florida has still involved some long roadtrips. But these trips are a breeze when you have a book like Will, the autobiography from the one-and-only grammy-winning, "I Am Legend' - ary actor/performer extraordinaire, Will Smith. We have loved listening to this on audiobook, which adds a whole other dimension of enjoyment since it's narrated by Will Smith himself. Highly. Reccommend.
🎄 Our next issue will be just days before Christmas and the heat of the holiday season. So until then, we wish you all the very best with shopping, quality time with family + friends, and ample opportunities to cozy on the couch and enjoy a mediocre Christmas movie with your loved ones!
