Hello !
I hope your week is going wonderfully! I'm digging these autumn temperatures.
This Sunday, we're starting a new series called, "The Enemy's Toolkit". I hear people often say that they, "feel like they're under attack" or "the enemy is going after their_____________"
But, as William Cowper once said, "Satan trembles when he sees the weakest Christian on his (or her) knees".
It's true! Praying is not only a defense against the enemy, it's also one way that the Kingdom advances and our lives are changed. So, here are four things you can do right now to improve your prayer life.
First, start your prayer time out by asking God for forgiveness. It helps to start out with a clean slate (and conscious) and slows us down for a little reflection.
Second, give thanks. Take a moment to think about the blessings in your life, and thank the Lord for them. It fills our hearts with faith, and nudges us into a place of humility and expectancy.
Third, pray scripture. Sometimes, we just don't know what to pray. Go ahead and open the Bible (I like to pray Psalms) and read a verse or two, then turn those words into a prayer to Him. It's powerful!
Fourth, pray for others. This is called intercession. Pray for others' healing, pray for provision, pray that they find Jesus (if they don't know Him). It's next level to take your eyes off yourself and spend a couple of minutes praying for someone else!
BONUS: just pray!
If you're not in the habit of praying, then develop that habit with just a few minutes a day. There is no other practice that will build your faith, lift your heart, and bring you closer to Jesus than prayer on a daily (or almost daily) basis.
You rock.
See you Sunday!
