Hi Dear Readers!

It's been a while since I've given you a real update. It's a bit long, so feel free to skip it if you're not interested. On the personal front, I needed to take some time away to focus on writing and family. I'm part of what you call the "sandwich generation" where I have kids who still actively need me and aging parents who also increasingly need my help. It's been a lot to balance. But I'm happy to report that at least for now, everyone is doing well.

The writing front has been both exciting and unexpected. I have a "short" (ahem, 30k) story coming out on September 1st, in a Fated Mates charity anthology which I'll discuss below. I'll also have a paranormal holiday story coming out on December 29th. No one is more shocked by this than me! I've never specifically written a holiday romance, and of course--even during the holidays--I can't seem to write a romance without at least one dead body. It will be part of a multi-author series that I'll tell you all more about when I'm allowed to blab. For now, I'll just say that this one is supposed to be a standalone. My track record for writing standalones is pretty abysmal so don't be surprised if it eventually spawns a new series. But a girl can dream.

As for my ongoing series, lately I've been working on Bill's story in the Starfig Investigations world. He's been pretty insistent and can be bloody rude when I ignore him for too long. Since these books tend to run long, I can't be sure when I'll finish it, but I'll keep you all posted as I get closer and have some firm dates. I apologize to those waiting eagerly for A Demon's Dilemma (set in the Much Ado About Demons world). I just haven't been able to sit with that story yet. I know a huge part of what happens, but sometimes the words just won't come. It's still on my radar, though, and I'm letting it roll around in my subconscious until my muse decides that NOW is the time.

Finally, I'm also about to put out into the world the Italian translation of Cat's Chance in Hell. I'll provide buy links once it goes live for those of you who want to check it out.

Three Lines from As the Raven Flies

This was something floating around Facebook asking authors to post the first line of their first three chapters, and I noticed Tavia Lark did it in her newsletter and I thought it was a fun idea, so I'm running with it. As the Raven Flies can absolutely be read as a standalone. Naturally, it will be more enjoyable if you've at least read The Demon's in the Details, but it isn't required--it just gives you a little more context. When I wrote The Demon's in the Details, I had no idea I would be writing the first book in a series or that I'd fall so hard for so many of the side characters. Abe stood out to me because he was solid, both physically and emotionally. Here was a guy who always offered his support when needed and was a natural caretaker. He wasn't the flashiest character, but he instantly earned a place in my heart. And I started wondering what his deal was. How could this stand-up raven shifter not have someone special in his life??? This guy needed his happily-ever-after! He deserved it. So, yeah, I gave it to him. Naturally, it's not anything like he was expecting. So, with that, the first line of the first three chapters.
