Decision Scoring Models: Your Secret to Smart AI & Tech Choices

Sep 25, 2025 2:21 pm

One theme that came up at our inaugural IA•AI meetup is that businesses are excited about AI—but stuck on where to start. Everyone has ideas. Everyone wants to “do something with AI.” But too many individual or teams spin their wheels without a clear way to decide which projects to tackle first.

That’s where a decision scoring model comes in. Think of it as a simple tool to turn all those AI and tech ideas into a prioritized, actionable plan. The goal isn’t to overcomplicate things—it’s to make better decisions, faster.

Here’s how it works: start by listing the AI or tech opportunities you’re considering. Then score them on a few key criteria: business value, feasibility, speed to benefit, and strategic fit. This process not only ranks your options—it surfaces where you need more clarity. Often, the real work is defining what problem you’re solving and how you’ll measure success before you spend a dollar.

I love this approach because it helps businesses move with intention and purpose (I co-host a podcast about intention!). Instead of getting stuck exploring every new AI tool or trend, you can pilot the right projects, measure results, and evolve. That’s the key to building real capability—not just running experiments.

Are there AI or tech projects you’ve been meaning to evaluate but haven’t made time for? Could a quick scoring session with your team help you find your next best move?

I’m happy to share it to help you get started. Go download my free AI Use Case Worksheet (PDF) or if you want to try the beta-version of my AI Use Case Brainstorm Bot (ChatGPT required, free account ok), please do so. Let me know how it goes.

Here’s to smarter, faster decision-making that actually moves your AI adventures and business forward.
