I messed up. 

My goal starting in the middle of July was to revamp my newsletter creation process. It was a focus that I was calling my Newsletter 2.0 Cycle.

The problem…

I didn't understand why I was making progress and also not making progress.

It wasn't until I watched the video — I'm sharing with you today — that it dawned on me what I had been doing wrong.

I was solving a real problem… well, actually a few of them: I was trying to:

• streamline my newsletter content creation process
• compare, contrast, and migrate email marketing service providers
• define content pillars to better write and plan several series
• secure education partners to bring new content topics

Are you seeing it? I wasn't.

Though, I could feel something was wrong.

I outlined my objectives, planned next steps, and started working. The problems I was trying to solve were real. Yet, my progress was at a standstill.

I overshaped my newsletter cycle.

I wanted to solve too many things, and solve them all at once. I got stuck in the details.

Being a single-person online business owner, you might be juggling multiple roles like me - product development, marketing, customer service. It’s a challenge to manage the day-to-day and also bring "new features" to your business.

I'm going to try this again.

I will try to find the best format for my newsletter cycle by using the Shaping method. This time, I'll be getting help via accountability and feedback from a group of lovely people doing the same inside the Wix Unlocked community.

Understanding the Shaping Method

The Shaping Method involves defining the scope of your project and deciding the level of detail to incorporate upfront. It’s about making trade-offs based on customer needs and ensuring your vision aligns perfectly with your execution.

A crucial part of this process is autonomy and focus. Employing the method requires you to work without unnecessary distractions.

So, take my advice, make it smaller than you think… because as a small business you're already doing everything else.
