Consume 80% Less, Produce 80% More

Dear Family,

We’ve talked about Maker Time before, but I want to double tap on it for a second.

The other night, after putting my daughter down, I sat on the couch and did what most of us do, I grabbed my phone. I told myself I’d just check a few things real quick. Next thing I know, I’m twenty minutes deep into a rabbit hole of YouTube videos and golf clips.

I laughed to myself because I know better. But it was a good reminder.

See, I learned early on that if I want to accomplish what I’ve set out to do—to take care of my family, build multiple businesses, and grow into the man I’m supposed to be—I can’t live in consumption mode. I need real time to make things.

That’s what I call Maker Time.

It’s those quiet hours when the phone’s face-down and I’m locked in. Sometimes I’m planning, sometimes I’m building, sometimes I’m just thinking deeply. But I’m doing the work.

And with a wife, a young daughter, and more responsibilities than ever, that time has become sacred. I can’t afford to binge Netflix for hours or scroll endlessly through content. That’s just not in alignment with where I’m trying to go.

If you're like me, you know a lot of people who are sleepwalking through life—always watching what others are doing, reading about success, talking about plans, but never taking that first step.

So this week, I’m challenging myself (and maybe you too) to flip the ratio:

Consume 80% less. Produce 80% more. Spend less time watching what everyone else is doing, and more time building your own thing. Write the plan. Make the call. Go on that run. Start small, but start.

The truth is, most people don’t need more information. They need more action.

From LUX, With Love
