In his book, The Meaning of Marriage, author Tim Keller writes:

When you marry, you've gotten into something that was invented by God. And if you determine to run your marriage your way, you're in for a lot of trouble, because marriage is God's institution. (p. 131)

It's easy to forget that marriage is God's idea and invention.

During the good times we can believe that our polished marriage skills made it so. And, during the rough times, we can believe that we're caught in a cycle of craziness and the marriage is doomed.

In every season of marriage, it's key to remember that it is God's invention and his institution.

When he's asked, and then allowed, to be the center of the marriage by BOTH spouses, things go better.

Don't get me wrong -- inviting God to lead your marriage doesn't mean things are going to go well 100% of the time. However, you will find that when you and your mate are both tuned into God's will for your marriage, you'll have a common playbook and purpose for the marriage.

Marriage was invented by God, and it's his institution.

Determine to run your marriage his way.

Kevin
