What Your Father Didn't Teach You About Shaving
Will Wholly Kaw La Supérieure Dulci Tobacco Shave Cream Raise The Artisan Bar In 2021?
Conventional wisdom holds that wet shaving artisans produce shave soaps because they’re easier to make than shave creams.
Wholly Kaw challenges that idea with the launch of their La Supérieure Dulci Tobacco Shave Cream. Is this the genesis of a paradigm shift for the artisan community? Read my review:
The Parker 74R Double Edge Razor
Parker safety razors has a new model for 2021, the 74R.
There are three finishes available for the 74R: Satin Chrome, Graphite & Satin Chrome, and Rosegold & Satin Chrome. Parker is moving to from powder coatings to electroplated finishes.
While the 74R may not be the heaviest double edge razor Parker makes (that honor goes to the 98R at 4.3 oz.) it is among their “heavyweight” class and feels substantial in my hand. I also quite like the balance: the center-of-gravity is more toward the head than the bottom TTO dial but perhaps not as far up as some other Parker razors I have used.
The "Best" Shave Brands?
Last week I asked you what you thought the "best" shaving brands are. There were 161 responses, or roughly 3% of the email list. I've read that "statistically meaningful" responses should be at least 8% so take this list accordingly.
I tried to "cast a wider net" by asking the question on several social media sources too but the response rate was very low (some administrators actively discouraged participation).
Anyway, the results:
- Stirling Soaps
- Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements (PAA)
- Proraso
- RazoRock/Italian Barber
- Barrister And Mann
Speaking of brands, have you wondered how the wet shaving business niche have fared during the 'rona? Ed McCarthy reached out to some of the brands to ask how they're doing.
