What Your Father Didn't Teach You About Shaving

March Madness In August, Round 1!

The first head-to-head (or beard-to-beard) evaluation in Sharpologist’s scent-free soap competition is Chiseled Face vs. Zingari Man. In this series Ed McCarthy is focusing on overall shaving performance so a soap’s scent--or cost--is not a factor in the review.

Shaving Revolution Razor

A while back I wrote about the most popular double edge razors by sales. In that article I mentioned the Amazon “X-Factor” and what razors were popular there at the time.

The top spot is now a horse race between razors from Vikings Blade and Shaving Revolution. Vikings Blade has been reviewed previously so I bought a Shaving Revolution razor to check out.

I Could Use Some Advice

I want to take some tentative steps back into straight razor shaving. I've been doing this in fits-and-starts over the years, without the success I'd like.

So I want to take a different tack and ask those of you who use straight razors (not blade-replaceable "Shavettes") what kind of razor spec's you would recommend for a beginner: size, grind, point, etc.

I've created a short (five question) survey: click/tap here to take it (Google Form). I'll post a summary in a future email. Thank you!

Giveaways

Congrats to "skyfire1" for winning the Parker Adjustable Injector razor!

This week's giveaway is a Merkur 40 "Barrel" razor. This razor uses the standard Merkur three-piece head on an unusually large handle. Great for someone who may have trouble grasping things.

Merkur no longer produces this razor. I've used this razor a few times over the years (click/tap here for my review) but it's kind of languished in my den for a while so I thought I'd PIF it away.
