When women first come to me in their 40s and 50s, they rarely say "I think I'm perimenopausal." They say something's off. They're snappier than usual, forgetting words halfway through a sentence, tearful at work over things that wouldn't normally touch them, or lying awake at 3am wondering what on earth is wrong with them.
