Mid-Life Adult Emotional Exhaustion.

Three years ago, I was coaching a very senior leader from a top multinational corporation in Hyderabad.

He came for support as he was going through a significant career setback, which he believed needed a way out and on an immediate basis, he would jump into sessions with a sense of urgency and would rush things, including asking tools that can find a guaranteed answer and would often end up feeling exhausted and not very satisfied with our work together.

We did not make any progress, which was obvious with the pace and direction he was headed. I also found him very emotional with everything and was so edgy that one wrong move from my end could push him out of the session and work altogether.

I want "You" to pause here and want you to make a note -

While the popular belief is that women are very emotional, it is not only Women, but men are equally emotional and also often unequipped to deal with their emotions without proper support.

He was one such person. His emotions often manifested in haste, anger, indecisiveness and anxiety (emotional masks worn) to keep him protected from the real core issue.

Work together.

His hasty approach made me adapt a different approach, and for his case, particularly, I revisited the entire contract and offered him the Guided Journaling offer (this is one of the most popular works I have done so far, with most of my clients who signed up for it)

Simple is powerful, very, very powerful, because when you remove the unnecessary, the essential shines.

In just two weeks, we were at the depths of his inner self,

Started with Tools

  • Guided meditation - To calm his cluttered mind (this is the foundation to think clearly and take an inward journey)
  • Reflection sessions - To deeply reflect (bespoke queries to understand the "what's beneath the surface)
  • Safe support sessions - To simply sit with what was surfacing (this is the most complex, difficult, and discomforting of all) can throw one into a pool of complex emotions.

The reflections were insightful, and coupled with my perspective, made profound changes inside him. But I also had to give him a lot of pause in between as he sat with his truth!

We fear our own truth because once we see it, we can no longer pretend.

What Transformed?

For the first time, he was able to meet himself, left behind long back in the grind of life!

This meeting, Journey of Self - meeting the inner self, was both crucial and cathartic; the meeting gave him insights, which in turn assisted him in creating a solution for his Emotional Exhaustion.

We started with a belief about a career setback and ended up creating a solution to address his emotional exhaustion.
