The Secular Vote Since 1980

Last week, Sara Levin and I launched a new project called The Secular Vote. This platform serves as a clearinghouse for data and resources related to secular voters. We will be sharing content from our areas of expertise and featuring contributions from other secular experts who are also active members of our secular communities.

Our launch event included a conversation with Dr. Ryan Cragun, and we plan to host more similar events in the future. I will share the video from the event once it's uploaded to our YouTube channel. In the meantime, you can follow The Secular Vote on Bluesky, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

My first post on The Secular Vote is an update on an essay I write after every presidential election: The Secular Vote Since 1980. This was the year when exit polls began to measure religion consistently, and the data reveal how secular voters have become a significant part of the Democratic coalition. Since the 1990s, they have voted for Democratic candidates by a ratio of nearly two-to-one or more. You can read the full post here.
