Are you building a business or a life sentence?

My father, now 73, was always a workaholic and all his life, he compromised everything for the sake of work.
Don't get me wrong - Who I am today, my achievements, my comfort all came from his sacrifices. But those sacrifices came with a heavy price: his physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
I've watched it happen in my own family and in multiple business owners i worked with, they keep grinding away at their business endlessly with no sense of work-life balance.
Their companies grow year after year, but they don't. They're stuck in the same hamster wheel, chasing a finish line that keeps moving.
A few years ago, I realized I was following the exact same path. Constantly working with no time to think about my future, my family, or my health.
That hit me hard.
I've been thinking about what "enough" looks like.
My biggest fear? Dying unhealthy. Living alone. Missing the moments with family, friends, and clients that make life worth living.
What if success isn't a bigger company or more revenue, but a business that can run without consuming every ounce of my energy?
I'm working on building systems now, not just revenue.
Now I'm developing leaders, and establishing processes that don't require my constant input.
It's not easy. Sometimes it feels like I'm taking steps backward to ultimately move forward. But I refuse to be that guy answering emails on his deathbed.
What about you? Do you ever worry about creating a business that owns you instead of the other way around? What's your exit strategy?
Cheers,
Nikhil
