The Art of Bouncing Back After a Business Hit
Sep 18, 2024 12:37 pm
Hey ,
Recently, during a coaching session, a client said "we decided to take a hit for a month and keep our employees we were about to let go".
I am not here to start a debate, but to make a point which is easy to miss.
And that is the point of taking a hit.
That is, a financial hit.
My client is running a $40 Million company.
The reason they are in this position is because they lost a big account and are forced to take some tough decisions.
But my client has always been people first in his approach.
That is part of their DNA and values with which they work.
So it’s not easy to face this situation.
But what I want to share with you is the calm and ease with which they said that statement.
No not in a careless manner or carefree manner but in a calm, composed and responsible manner.
Taking hits in business is part of the journey.
It is part of the game of business.
It is unavoidable.
Ideally it should not lead to lay-offs but sometimes it happens.
Even if you are the best in your industry something somewhere for some reason is bound to go wrong and you will end up taking a hit.
This is important because I find business owners getting so obsessed with not taking hits or sometimes never bouncing back from taking a hit.
Business is a game of odds.
The odds get stacked in your favour over a long period of time, minimum 10 years.
But that doesn’t guarantee lifelong financial success.
It just means no one can ignore you in your industry.
You’ve been there long enough to prove to your marketplace that you are here to stay.
It is grit.
It is tenacity.
It is testament to your dedication.
So don’t let the hits define you.
The hits are a sign for you to hit back and do things better.
Cheers,
